Commercial Description:
Brewed by Mikkeller at De Proefbrouwerij in Lochristi, Belgium. Known as Monk’s Brew in the U.S.
Ingredients : Water, malts (pils and pale), candy syrup, brown sugar, hops (northern brewer, hallertauer and styrian goldings) and ale yeast
Monk’s Elixir is a heavy dark Belgian ale inspired by the Trappist monasteries of Rochefort and Westvleteren. The beer style, characterized by its high content of alcohol, distinguishes itself by its dominant yeast character, delicious malt background and balanced hop notes.

Poured from a 750ml caged and corked bottle labeled as Monk’s Brew and served in a tulip. This beer poured a murky mahogany brown hue with a two-finger thick head of tan foam. Decent retention and lacing. The aroma of the beer was made up of dark fruits, chocolate, caramelized sugar, and some alcohol. The flavor consisted of prunes, raisins, red apples, baker’s chocolate, caramel, earthy yeast, and some warming alcohol. The mouthfeel was medium to full-bodied with moderate carbonation. Very nicely crafted. Surprisingly authentic and to style. Well done!

Dark brown color with a medium head. Yeasty and bready aroma. A little herbal. Strong brown sugar, hazelnut and tobacco flavors. More herbal and yeast. Big, thick mouthfeel. Outstanding.

Bottle drank at the Bayou, keep bringing these new beers into Utah please! Pours a ruby color with a thick beige head. The aroma was very sweet; toffee, coca, nuts, coffee, and alcohol. The flavor was quite nice; sort of in between a BSA and a Imperial Stout; some coffee, brown sugar, a bit of bitterness, burnt malts, and some vinous notes. Nice.

750 ml corked and caged bottle poured a clear dark reddish brown with a small diminishing tan head. Aromas of toffee, burnt carmel, raisins, dates and brown sugar. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of toffee, brown sugar, pears, dates and light spice with a smooth lightly sweet malty finish.

Bottle 0,75l. Dark brown colored. A large creamy head. Aroma of spice and malt. Rich malty flavor with some fruit. Surprisingly easy to dring for it’s strength.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown colour with a lasting tan head. Aroma is roasted malts and drak fruit with caramel. Mouthfeel is good, soft and round. Flavor is vinous, again with dark fruit, caramel and spices. Very good.
