Commercial Description:
Brewed by Mikkeller at De Proefbrouwerij in Lochristi, Belgium. Known as Monk’s Brew in the U.S.
Ingredients : Water, malts (pils and pale), candy syrup, brown sugar, hops (northern brewer, hallertauer and styrian goldings) and ale yeast
Monk’s Elixir is a heavy dark Belgian ale inspired by the Trappist monasteries of Rochefort and Westvleteren. The beer style, characterized by its high content of alcohol, distinguishes itself by its dominant yeast character, delicious malt background and balanced hop notes.

750 ml. bottle, small champagne head that dissipates to a foggy foam, dark brown , bitter finish of sugar and some toffee, hard to pin this one down

Bottle. Small creamy off-white head thats diminishing.. Unclear, brown body. Fruity aroma specially of banana and brown sugar. Full body with a thick texture. Sweet and bitter flavor - not very complex. Long strong (alcohol) and bitter finish. Disappointing. Reminds me of af Gouden Carolus Classic.

(750ml bottle) Pours a medium brown body with a small beige head. Aroma of the sweetness of an Indian strong lager, red licorice, raisins, artificial berry, and caramel. Flavor of toasted malt, raisins, herbs, tobacco, candish, and noticeable alcohol with a dry finish.

Pours brown with some off white fizziness at the surface. Smells of dark fruit, molasses, caramel, hints of woodiness. Tastes of vanilla, dark fruit, some malty touches and a finish that is clove like.

An Abt meets Mikkellers creativity. Great Abt - combined with strange syrupy taste and strawberries (?). Not sure I like it - but it’s a good beer...(Tasted at the BASMOF Nytårskur 07/08 12-01-2008)

Red brown with off white creamy head. Sweet spicy aroma with overripe fruits, yeast and caramel. Malty flavor with chocolate, caramel, overripe fruits and hops in the end. Nice one.

Bottle, courtesy after4ever. These old notes keep popping up. I think I’m caught up, and another pile appears. Anyway, this beer pours a hazy dark brown with an off-white head. Toffee and fruit aroma. Medium body and light carbonation. Soft chocolate finish.

Very hazy chesnut colored beer with orange brown highlights on the edges and with nice and stable yellow beige head. Aroma is chalky with hints of brown sugar, malts, cereals, dry caralel, some dried fruits like sultanas, raisins, honey, flowers and hops. Taste is smooth rich and quite complex. Its is thick and malty, with touches of X-mas pudding, spices, cloves, some green bitters and some boos. Aftertaste is interesting and has a mild richeness with lots od differents tastesensations going on. A very nice quad with a very good balance.
