Commercial Description:
Brewed by Mikkeller at De Proefbrouwerij in Lochristi, Belgium. Known as Monk’s Brew in the U.S.
Ingredients : Water, malts (pils and pale), candy syrup, brown sugar, hops (northern brewer, hallertauer and styrian goldings) and ale yeast
Monk’s Elixir is a heavy dark Belgian ale inspired by the Trappist monasteries of Rochefort and Westvleteren. The beer style, characterized by its high content of alcohol, distinguishes itself by its dominant yeast character, delicious malt background and balanced hop notes.

[Bottle, thanks Yespr] Pours murky brown with a small white head. Aroma is a little weak--grape, malt, yeast. Taste is about the same as the taste but a little stronger with a bit more malt and yeast. Mouthfeel is a little thin. Not impressed.

Another from Yespr. An interesting beer. Not quite as heavy as some abbots, but more body and more flavor than most quads. Lots of fruit and malt, and prominent Belgian yeast. Low carbonation. A good interpretation of one of my favorite styles.

I believe Yesper is to thank for this brew as well. Pours a dark golden tinted brown color. Very sweet nose with toffee dominating. The flavor is much more complex and exudes a light yeasty funkiness as well as a good dose of honey and toffee sweet malt. There is a light smokey roasted character as well. Not nearly as good as the other Mikkeller beers I have had, but tasty nonetheless.

Bottle at No 5. Guest Mikkel Bjergsøe. Redbrown with a large beige head, lacings ok. Aroma heavy malty (brown sugar) and hoppy. Flavor heavy sweet, moderate/heavy bitter. Medium/full body, sirupy.

Dark brown with a subdued head. The aroma is classic: Prunes, dark sugar and alcohol, but it has a nice hoppy sie. The flavour is light yeasty, has some dried fruits to it and a nice amount of hops. It’s a quite renewing quadrupel.

Biscuity and chalky in aroma and in taste. The aroma is very middle of the road, boring almost. Taste is fruity with a dull chalkiness in the finish. Also, very dry for a quad with a malt and caramel flavor- makes it this very odd, medicinal (almost menthol or band-aid) flavor to the beer. Very, very average.

3rd LCRBM. Malty flavor and aroma with butterscotch. Roasted malt and licorice. Sweet. Red berries in the aftertaste. Good but not magical, like some other Mikkeller beers.

Bottle. Pours a red-brown colour with a nice beige head. Aroma of well toasted malt, caramel, lots of spices and alcohol. The flavour is sweet and spices with toasted malt, dark fruits, yeast and alcohol.
