3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750ml bottle. Pours a cloudy deep brown color with a one finger tan head, which quickly dissipates with some mild lacing. Aroma of Belgian candy sugar sweetness, chocolate and earthiness with some mild sour notes. Taste has doughy brown sugar up front, with lots and lots of dark fruits. Hints of cocoa, with earthy bitterness towards the finish. Almost no alcohol present, but a bit spicy and warming on the finish. Lots of layers as it warms. Well carbonated, clean, medium bodied.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Teign cellars. Raisins, spice, ginger and molasses on the nose. Pours a seething dark with a forceful head. Flavour is vineous and honey sweet with that distinctive Trappist-style schpritzig. Burnt caramel, gentle toasty hop notes and liquored black cherry notes finish it up. To do a great Trappist you need to be a monk whoís foresworn all other earthly pleasures and these guys ainít, but a fine imitation nonetheless.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Monks Elixir huh? Maybe cough syrup? Nose is strong cherries and raspberries with some chocolate. No prunes, plums or dates. Poured out a deep reddish from the fruit and cloudy brown color, with a mocha colored head. A few sips warms your face and goes straight to your head. Very strong. Sweet. The sour element is unique and interesting. Astringent with bitter barrel character. Very tart. Harsh beer. Too cherry! Definitely Monk-ish but without the prayer to truly complete it.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. A deep brown, dark mahogany colored beer with a nice frothy beige head.
Aroma is burned, candied, sweet brown sugar, lots of dark fruits (plums, dates, figs), malt. Nice smelling beer.
Taste follows the nose maybe with some additional hops. A slight bitterness.
Mouthfeel is really nice, medium and dry with a lot of carbonation.
In general, this beer is delicious. Just how a well-crafted quad should be in my opinion: Tons of sugar and dark fruit notes and good carbonation. Itís never gonna be my favorite style, but this is definitely a very nice beer.

Bottle at karup, 29/5 2013. Dark brown, small off white head, nice lacing. Aroma, floral, plum, slight alcohol. Taste, sort of like the aroma, floral, plums with a sweetness, a little bitter, some alcohol in the aftertaste. Nice mouth feel, not much carbonation. Great summer evening warmer.
