Brewed by Mikkeller at De Proefbrouwerij in Lochristi, Belgium. Known as Monk’s Brew in the U.S.
Ingredients : Water, malts (pils and pale), candy syrup, brown sugar, hops (northern brewer, hallertauer and styrian goldings) and ale yeast
Monk’s Elixir is a heavy dark Belgian ale inspired by the Trappist monasteries of Rochefort and Westvleteren. The beer style, characterized by its high content of alcohol, distinguishes itself by its dominant yeast character, delicious malt background and balanced hop notes.

On tap @ Erzbierschof. Dark brown color with small tan head. Yeasty, sugary, dark aroma with pears. Taste is candied fruits, candied sugar, yeasty, sweet apple most. Pears! Lots of pears. No bitterness in the finish. Smooth carbonation. Aftertaste is subtle. Not as heavy as I?d expected it. A nice brew, but cannot match against the top quadrupels. Also, lots of apples :D

Daught at Ølhus Stockholm, Helsinki. Dark brown, cloudy, small to average and mostly diminishing light brown head. Moderate, malty and sugary sweetish aroma, caramel and some fruitiness, light roasted malt and alcohol. Body is medium to full, malty and sugary sweetish, some caramel and fruitiness, light alcohol. Finish is average, malty and sweetish, some caramel and light fruitiness, light - some alcohol. Sweet strong ale with 10% alcohol, bit one-dimensional. Could use some bitterness to balance sugary sweetness.

Odczucie: dosyć treściwe, rozgrzewa w przełyku, zalepiające;
Ogólnie: okropnie słodkie, ale przyjemne.

Draft to taster at Eight Ball from notes. Pours a dark reddish brown color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor had nice dark fruit, hints of chocolate, raisins, vanilla, sweet caramel, some alcohol, dry at the finish, medium full bodied, warming, solid enough to try again.

330 mL bottle from the LCBO, served in a goblet. Pours clear ruby-chestnut with a moderate tan head that fades slowly to a thin cover and leaves a moderate amount of fine lace. The nose has big molasses, caramel, raisin and fig, along with candy sugar, Belgian yeast and subtle noble hops. The flavour is moderately sweet with brown sugar, caramel, figs and raisins. Subtle noble hops are present for balance, along with a soft pepperiness. The finish is long and malty but with a subtle hop note as well. The alcohol is more apparent than it could be. On the palate, it is medium in body with a milky texture and soft carbonation. Overall, a respectable quad, but not up to the usual Mikkeller standard. It falls short on complexity and feels slightly harsh. 2015-01-14

Belgium is felt, but still in their own way. Good, but not bright. Simple little flavor and taste
