COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed by Mikkeller at De Proefbrouwerij in Lochristi, Belgium. Known as Monk’s Brew in the U.S.
Ingredients : Water, malts (pils and pale), candy syrup, brown sugar, hops (northern brewer, hallertauer and styrian goldings) and ale yeast
Monk’s Elixir is a heavy dark Belgian ale inspired by the Trappist monasteries of Rochefort and Westvleteren. The beer style, characterized by its high content of alcohol, distinguishes itself by its dominant yeast character, delicious malt background and balanced hop notes.

Poured 22 oz into a sniffer glass. Sweet malty amora Coffee color with an espresso like head. Has a sweet malty favor with slight roasted notes. This beer finishes on the sour side. Very lively on the palate. Overall a very nice beer.

Bottle pours dark reddish brown with tan pillowy head. Contains some particulate floaters. Figs, bread, caramel, spices. Alcohol on the nose but not in the taste. Full, creamy body with a bit of carbonation. Moderately sweet. A fine belgian ale.

330 ml bottle (monks brew). cannot find evidence that this is brewed in belgium? Pours dark brown with large fluffy head and some lacing. sweet fruity aroma, taste does not dissapoint, sweet with notes of plum and syrup. Does not share the alcohol character of the rocheforts despite the high abv.

Buena cuádruple. color caoba oscuro con tonos rojizos y espuma beige de densidad media. El aroma es, principalmente, de fruta ácida y malta. En boca muestra esa acidez equilibrada con un final de alcohol también muy matizado. Grata experiencia.

33 cl bottle @ home. Pours dark reddish brown with a little sediment and an off-white head that leaves some lacing. Aroma is vinous, dark fruits, caramel, sugar, and spices. Flavour is dark fruits, caramel, and spices – with some warming alcohol in the finish.

Dark chocholate body, slight beige head. Watery sugar nose. Firmly sweet body but no Belgian warmth to the middle. Slightly dense finish of nothing real actually too formidable. Fairly safe, not at bogging as the Red Wine version.

Tap: dark brown pour with small off-white head. Aroma is yeasty with candy sugar and toasted malt and a light tart note. Spicy yeast flavor with brown sugar, a little tart green apple, and ends with a dusty, peppery bitterness. Solid flavors, great sipping.

UPDATED: APR 20, 2013 From a 75 cl bottle shared in Avon NC. Pours a dark reddish brown with a thick off white head. Aroma of peaches. Flavors of caramel and some peach. Subtle boozy finish. Medium mouthfeel with light carbonation. Not your ordinary abt/quad but quite nice.
