Ingredients : Water, malts (pils and pale), candy syrup, brown sugar, hops (northern brewer, hallertauer and styrian goldings) and ale yeast
Monk’s Elixir is a heavy dark Belgian ale inspired by the Trappist monasteries of Rochefort and Westvleteren. The beer style, characterized by its high content of alcohol, distinguishes itself by its dominant yeast character, delicious malt background and balanced hop notes.

Pours dark brown brown with a pretty big light brown head. Dried fruit aroma. Taste is a semi-sweet dried fruit (fig, banana) with a mild spice. Heavy malts make a very full beer. This is a well-made, delicious brew.

330ml bottle. Deep mahogany with a foamy beige head. Flavors are bread, dark fruits, molasses, toffee, chocolate, spices and alcohol with woodsy hops. Medium to full body, moderate to high carbonation, oily texture. Not in the same league as its Belgian counterparts, but very enjoyable nonetheless.

Piwo smaczne slodowe wyczuwalne figi i daktyle. odrobina suszonych sliwek w czekoladzie. Alkohol niestety lekko wyczuwalny ale szlachetny troche do rumu i scherry byl podobny. Rozgrzewal na koncu do tego chmiel na samej koncowce sie pojawil i cieplo utrzymywalo jego goryczke. Wyglad ladna piana kremowa nawet trwala lekko oblepiajaca kielich Rocheforta.. Zabojcza etykieta troche jakby komiczna no ale ogolnie piwo smaczne

Part of the 2014 Mikkeller Feature and the LCBO. The beer poured a dark reddish brown with a tan coloured head. The aroma is roasted malt, yeast and grains. The mouthfeel is full bodied with above average carbonation. The flavour is dark roasted malt, floral hops, and dark fruits. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with average carbonation. Lot of dark fruits and yeast in the mouthfeel A good beer. I can only think that the barrel aged versions are better, but this is very good..

330 ml bottle from LCBO, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. As “Monk’s Brew”.

App.: Very deep mahogany with a fluffy light tan head that lasts a long time. Aroma: Bright fruitiness, toffee and brown sugar, dark bread crust, a minty herbal note, a bit boozy, faint vanilla, a little woodsy, might be a touch medicinal? Palate: Medium+ body, relaxed carbonation, lightly creamy. Flav.: A little harsher than the nose with more apparent alcohol, still has some nice rich maltiness, herbal notes, esters, then more booze; off-dry with moderate to low bitterness and a very boozy, malty finish.

Too much alcohol comes through.

Bottle from LCBO. Pours dark brown with fluffy head. Brown sugar, very smooth and balanced. Goes down quick for it’s weight. Not overly impressed with this.

Moderately strong aroma of raisin and plum. Dark brown with a large tan head. Full bodied, warming but not too boozy, nice for a snowy evening. Any sweetness is fairly subdued, taste is bitter with aftertaste of yeast. Soft on the palate, hops come in slowly. Pretty good in the whole scheme of things, but not quite up to the standard of the Trappists.

Dark mahogany with big, foamy, fine-bubble beige head, thick lacing / Mild nose of CO2, must, dark fruit, chocolate, graham cracker / Medium body, lively, somewhat sweet and fruity but with fine balance and bitterness on the finish / Mild but complex flavors of date, chocolate, cardboard, graham cracker, black cherry, caramel, light funk / Subtle, but really grows on you.

330 mL bottle. Closer to a Rochefort than a Westy. But not as good as either. It’s smaller, even as it warms. The malt complexity just isn’t there, and it’s a little boozy. That’s not to say that this isn’t a really solid quad on its own. Age may soften and fill this one out a little.
