Pours a murky bronze body with a small but thick and persistant tan head.
Nose seems a bit hoppier than most, citrus and herb, lots of rich vinous fruit; raisins, plums, dates, dark brown sugar, port and brandy-like alcohol presense. Has a slight mustiness surrounding it, which I could just be imagining.
Thick rich body, as expected from a beer of this size, creamy near-velvet texture, moderate carbonation. Alcohols on the way down.
Plenty of the aroma translates to the body; figs, plums, some citrus rind, dark cherries, bubblegum, brown sugar, port. Finishes somewhat dry and not as lengthy as I was hoping. Slight sharp citrusy bitterness to boot.
A very nice Belgian dark strong, no doubt, though the alcohol isn’t that well hidden and it has a slight citric sharpness which probably puts it a rung below more authentic Belgian counterparts. Anker (313), Hillerød, Denmark
