COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed by Mikkeller at De Proefbrouwerij in Lochristi, Belgium. Known as Monk’s Brew in the U.S.
Ingredients : Water, malts (pils and pale), candy syrup, brown sugar, hops (northern brewer, hallertauer and styrian goldings) and ale yeast
Monk’s Elixir is a heavy dark Belgian ale inspired by the Trappist monasteries of Rochefort and Westvleteren. The beer style, characterized by its high content of alcohol, distinguishes itself by its dominant yeast character, delicious malt background and balanced hop notes.

On tap @ Mikkeller. Dark brown/amber pour with a khaki head. Really nice malt sweetness. Tons of caramel, dark fruit, raisin, banana, and brown sugar. Notes of cherry and grape. Light spice and alcohol. Flavor is quite sweet, but not cloying. Big caramel, brown sugar, cherry, and grape. Some raisin, plum, and spice (clove) notes. Banana, yeast, and a bit of alcohol. Drinks pretty good.

Clear brown, short off-white head. Aroma is lots of dark fruit, caramel, yeast, Belgian candy. Taste is sweet candy, bread, dark fruits. Body is a bit thin, but drinks very easy and the alcohol is well hidden, but it’s too sweet for my liking.

33 cl.
