COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed by Mikkeller at De Proefbrouwerij in Lochristi, Belgium. Known as Monk’s Brew in the U.S.
Ingredients : Water, malts (pils and pale), candy syrup, brown sugar, hops (northern brewer, hallertauer and styrian goldings) and ale yeast
Monk’s Elixir is a heavy dark Belgian ale inspired by the Trappist monasteries of Rochefort and Westvleteren. The beer style, characterized by its high content of alcohol, distinguishes itself by its dominant yeast character, delicious malt background and balanced hop notes.

This beer smells very lively. Lots of stong malt, fig, spice, earthy notes at first. After a while it smells very doughy, with some fresh alcohol and candied sugar notes. Flavor is just superb in its smoothness. It has the flavor and delicacy of a some fresh salad greens. It really reminds me of biting into some very clean and fresh dark greens. The palate is simply something to take a vacation into. It just wraps the mouth in this softness that rivals a milk chocolate mousse.

Bottle. Raisin, orange, chocolate malt, and herbal hay aroma. Dark brown with small head. Very sweet candi sugar, caramel malt, raisin, and mildly bitter herbal hay flavor. Nice body. Very tasty.

Cloudy dark brown body, minimal sized off-white head. Aroma of alcohol, dried fruit and chocolate. Taste is also dried fruit, berries, raisins, not as sweet as I was expecting. Lively carbonation, medium body. Not bad, but jot my stuff either. //bottle at Craft Room

UPDATED: APR 5, 2016 Barwa ciemnobrązowa, piwo jest raczej klarowne. Bardzo obfita, trwała, beżowa piana. W aromacie suszone owoce, figi, rodzynki, karmel, trochę alkoholu. Dość wysokie wysycenie, w smaku jest słodkie. Są rodzynki, chleb, belgijskie drożdże, przyjemny owocowy posmak.

Bottle: (as "Monk’s Brew") Cloudy, dark brown with a creamy, whipped tan head. Aroma of vanilla candi-sugar, toffee, dark fruit. Flavour is fudge, vanilla , a touch of bitter coffee, plum... Creamy, a little peppery, nicely complex. Wonderful !

Picked up a 12oz bottle at Party Source in Newport, KY; tasted it from a goblet. Pours a cola-color with a fluffy beige head that dissipates slowly. Only scattered specks of lacing for me. Aromas are big—sweet, spicy, a bit banana-like...yeasty with some alcohol coming through. Flavors are sweet, caramelly, with toasty brown sugar and a slight coffee bitterness in the finish. Body seems medium, with a fizzy carbonation. This one is tasty.

Final maltado, adocicado, leve amadeirado. Boa, mas perde para as quad belgas.

Bottle from LCBO, been in the cellar for maybe a year. Cloudy warm brown with tan head. Strong aroma if raisins, caramel, toffee, hint of peach pits. Quite a light mouthfeel for a beer with this alcohol level. Nicely done.
