COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed by Mikkeller at De Proefbrouwerij in Lochristi, Belgium. Known as Monk’s Brew in the U.S.
Ingredients : Water, malts (pils and pale), candy syrup, brown sugar, hops (northern brewer, hallertauer and styrian goldings) and ale yeast
Monk’s Elixir is a heavy dark Belgian ale inspired by the Trappist monasteries of Rochefort and Westvleteren. The beer style, characterized by its high content of alcohol, distinguishes itself by its dominant yeast character, delicious malt background and balanced hop notes.

pours dark brown with zero head. looks cloudy. aroma is dark fruits and chocolate with a hint of alcohol. very nice malt character but a bit high on the booziness factor. like drinking a fine wine. taste gets better as it warms. delicious brew.

Solidny przedstawiciel stylu. Spokojnie stający w szranki z belgijskimi odpowiednikami.

On tap. Chestnut color. Aroma of banana, caramel, alcohol. Very good, but with direct comparison with La Trappe, this one is just worse.

Huge thanks to Iznogud and Werckmeister for sharing the bottle! Drank at the Who Cares for Beer Festival 2016, Bevog Brewery in Bad Radkersburg, Austria. Murky reddish-brown, beige head. Aroma of dry fruits, fruit jam, alcohol and yeast. Mostly sweet. Full body, alcoholic and dry finish. Very complex.

0,33l from bottle at Bevog Festival shared by iznogud, big thanks. almost black color, small off white head. smells of spices, marzipan, light nutty, dark fruits, raisins, nice smell. full body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes of raisins, dark fruit, light berry notes, light sweetness, some belgian yeast. finishes lightly sweet with notes of raisins and dark fruity notes. nice one overall.

0,33/3,99€ vom BRAUFACTUM ONLINE STORE.

Aroma:
Medium/heavy aroma of malts, caramel, Belgian yeast, dark fruit, bread and spices.

Appearance:
Turbid/opaque ruby/dark brown beer with a slight/medium beige/brown head.

Taste/Palate:
Starts medium/heavy sweet with malts, caramel, Belgian yeast and dark fruit; ends slightly dry with bread and spices.

Overall:
This beer is intense, complex and balanced. Not super intense, but insanely complex. Nothing else to say really, as with most quads. Could have been darker, that would have been more to my liking.

Jun. ’16. A 0.33 l bottle from Mali Ducan, Split. It poured a lightly hazy copper to brown body with medium sized head. Dark fruit, caramel and herbal aroma, rather weak and simple. Flavor was lightly sweet, fruity (cooked), with some chocolate and residual sugar, not bad but quite simple and empty. Especially considering the ABV, which was not felt much, but everything else was seemingly dampened together with alcohol. Medium body with shorter, chocolate and dark cooked fruity finish. Not bad, showed some very fine notes, but not more than an average Belgian style brew. Expected so much more seeing these ratings! Brand surely sells here.
