COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

English: Nelson Sauvignon is a New Year beer it is fermented with ale yeast, brettanomyces and enzymes. Then it has been aged three months in Austrian white wine casks. Very dry, very vinous and very delicious.

UPDATED: DEC 29, 2009 Bottle, 9.0%. Grapey fruit aroma, hint of wet hop. Hazy orange colour. Small rocky plasticky head. The flavour has some wet hop as well, the Nelson Sauvin, I guess. There also seems to be some grape notes from the cask. Good refreshing citrus note in the finish.

Bottle that I bought somewhere. Pours a deep bronze, nearly dirty penny copper. Hazed with a huge offwhite head. Nose is funky, caramel and gooseberry driving, along with an oaky edge and dank wet wood. On tasting, low bitterness, hops are faded. Light Brett is coming through but has a wine like note on the finish. Lacking funk overall on the palate, on the sweeter side with some oxidation coming through. Interesting but a shadow I’m sure.

Bottle shared by NobleSquirrel. Thanks, dude! Pours a deeper dark amber biscuity hue, darker with good haze, some floaties and frothy tannish head atop. Dies to a firm layer, laces ok. Aromas are a bit sweet, touches of fruity apple, pear and biscuit. Some touches of champagne yeast, pear and biscuits, bread and dough. Some white grape, biscuits. A bit sweet and sticky with a touch of dust. Initial is lighter end of medoum bodied, a good deal of white grape, kiss of champagne yeast. Dry and gentle pear, apple sweetness kiss in. A touch of body, biscuits and white grape. Mellow yet growing dry earthy hops, some melon and white grape. Touch of spicy yeast. Gentle sweetness, a bit biscuity. Some spice, a touch of tartness, dry earthy hops and mellow yeast hits the palate. Pretty nice, a bit sweet on the nose and backend. But overall, pretty well put together, some good hops and spicy yeast. Nice flavors.

10.05.2013, 0,75l bottle @ home (almost 7 months old): Nice creamy head. Aroma is fresh funky, slightly dry bretty, citrus, over ripe mountain berries, grass, citrus peel, tropical fruit, hay, wet leafs, wood, some alcohol. Taste is fresh, slightly dry, fruity, citrus, brett, lemon peel, passion fruit, wood, alcohol, grass. Medium dry mouthfeel and bitterness. I’m pretty weak for fresh bretty beers. Even though this isn’t the best I’ve had, it’s still very good and easy drinking.

(Rating #4751)

Nose of acid, catpiss, grapefruit, mandarine orange, durian, manure, wood. Strange and fascinating. Bright, glowing orange color with lace. Slightly sour, funky flavor, grapefruit and mandarine, sweet biscuits, grape, pomegranate. Rich fruity sweetness makes a good contrast to the funk. Great.

Tap in the Mikkeller Bar. Poured a slightly hazy medium amber with a frothy white head. The aroma is rich citrus, but a little week. The flavour is kinda bitter sweet and sour with the sweetness winning overall. There is oak and white wine plus plenty of other things going on. I’m not sure what I really think of this beer. I should order another to be sure.
