English: Nelson Sauvignon is a New Year beer it is fermented with ale yeast, brettanomyces and enzymes. Then it has been aged three months in Austrian white wine casks. Very dry, very vinous and very delicious.

This was pretty impressive. Sourness and wood undertones work together to make a very unique experience. Almost nebbiolo-like in aroma. Fantastic.

Backlog rating. 75cl bottle from Mother Kelly’s, London. it pours a rich dark golden / orange color with a large off-white head. Aroma is intense funk, white wine, apricots, lemon, tangerine, persimmon, fortified white wine, funk, barnyard, lychee. Unbelievably complex. Taste has more mix of winey, fruity, funky, grassy, citric, tangy notes. Medium to full bodied with soft to good carbonation. Overall, outstanding

Clear as a bell golden, visible carbonation and . Nose is rich, sticky bretty funk and a lean winey buzz. Initial taste is a firm sweetness, weirdly strawberry and a slick grapey wet sock dip. Carbonation is firm, clean enough but firm mouthfeel. Finishes sweetly bitter, long greasy brett and massively clean melon.

750ml bottle for Premier Gourmet in Buffalo, New York. Orange-amber in colour, large off-white head, excellent lacing, excellent retention. The aroma is acidic and sour, apples and lots of white grapes, gooseberries, tropical. The flavour is very fruity, lots of grapefruit and grapes, some green apples, tart, funky, brett, some wood. Tart, slightly sour mouthfeel, medium body, high carbonation. Finishes long, tart with lots of sour fruit. An excellent beer. So drinkable, each sip seems different then the last.

Bottle, BB 16/10/22, so it’s almost 3 years old. Gushing a bit on opening but I was prepared for this to happen. Cool paper wrap around the bottle but I’m a bit disappointed that it turned out to have a plastic cork instead of a real cork. Pours a brighter sort of orange body with a medium to small head. Aroma has plenty of brett and some light fruity hoppiness, later hints of light white wine are added. Everything is subtle and not too assertive. Taste has some bretty notes mixing with overripe oranges and a touch of white wine. Not getting any specific kind of NZ hops, I think the funkiness is overshadowing them at this point. Soft carbonation and semi-dry finish. Although I didn’t have it fresh, I think ageing has mellowed the carbonation and sweetness, at least it feels this way. Very interesting beer - if you like brettanomyces then it’s a must try (but I don’t think it’s currently available in any local shop here). However, it must be noted that the 2012 bottle of Orval I had as a warm up for this one was even more satisfying.
