4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
This was pretty impressive. Sourness and wood undertones work together to make a very unique experience. Almost nebbiolo-like in aroma. Fantastic.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Clear as a bell golden, visible carbonation and . Nose is rich, sticky bretty funk and a lean winey buzz. Initial taste is a firm sweetness, weirdly strawberry and a slick grapey wet sock dip. Carbonation is firm, clean enough but firm mouthfeel. Finishes sweetly bitter, long greasy brett and massively clean melon.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle, BB 16/10/22, so it’s almost 3 years old. Gushing a bit on opening but I was prepared for this to happen. Cool paper wrap around the bottle but I’m a bit disappointed that it turned out to have a plastic cork instead of a real cork. Pours a brighter sort of orange body with a medium to small head. Aroma has plenty of brett and some light fruity hoppiness, later hints of light white wine are added. Everything is subtle and not too assertive. Taste has some bretty notes mixing with overripe oranges and a touch of white wine. Not getting any specific kind of NZ hops, I think the funkiness is overshadowing them at this point. Soft carbonation and semi-dry finish. Although I didn’t have it fresh, I think ageing has mellowed the carbonation and sweetness, at least it feels this way. Very interesting beer - if you like brettanomyces then it’s a must try (but I don’t think it’s currently available in any local shop here). However, it must be noted that the 2012 bottle of Orval I had as a warm up for this one was even more satisfying.
