Bottle, best before 24/09/17. Pours a very dark brown/black with a coffee coloured head. Aroma is slightly medicinal with bitter coffee and choc. Medium to full body, medium carbonation. Slightly lighter in body than I suspected it would be based on appearance. Nice level of coffee, not too bitter, with dark choc and a hint of citrus in the finish. Tasty. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Look: dark brown/black chocolate. A thumb high, very solid and consistent foam, brown/caramel color. Low carbonation; good lacing.

Smell: huge roasty, smokey, coffee malt notes. Hint of fresh hop fragrance, a fruity character. Subtle but charming.

Taste: big dark roasted, smokey malt middle then comes a hint of freshness from hops. There’s a nice balance of roasted malt and hop flavour. This especially comes to life in the nice bitter coffee/hops aftertaste. The roasted character is not overblown. There are some hints of tart.

Mouthfeel: Very smooth/creamy, medium body. Alcohol well hidden. A nice coating, easy sipper.

Overall: Good representative of a american porter, the hop character with roasted malt make a nice balance, will pick it up again.

33cl bottle. It is written on that bottle that it is brewed and bottled at De Proef Brouwerij in Belgium. Pitch black with light brown, thick head. NOSE : black chocolate, strong lactic aromas, cocoa, cheese, caramel, vanilla, nuts, dried raisins. SIP : medium thick and oily with delicate carbonation. Sweet and creamy with strong cocoa and black chocolate like flavors. It has a delicate booze feeling to it too. While it keeps the sweet layer it becomes a bit dry like coffee. Bitterness is moderate and it is mostly burned chalk like. Finish is dry and bitter with earthy feeling on tongue. Almost like an ashtray but not putting off. Notes of banana and red grapes reveal themselves after couple of sips. Maybe even apples. OVERALL : a very nice and complex aroma comes with a smooth body and rich flavor. Complex and balanced enough to live up it’s reputation. Delicious.

Half liter bottle from Woodmans in Waukesha, cellar aged a while (2 months?). Pours a very dark brown with a light brown head leaving some spots of lace. Aroma has cocoa powder, caramel, and espresso, with faint smoke. Taste is of sweet caramel, significant bitter roastiness, some milk chocolate, molasses and hints of salty meat smoke. Medium to full bodied. Faint alcohol. Finishes bittersweet, with a nice balance of the two. A touch richer, and this would be world class.

Black pour, moderate sized tan head, good lace/retention. Aroma is dominated by chocolate but has notes of roast, caramel, licorice, a light hop presence. Medium to full bodied, smooth, chocolate flavor with light licorice notes.

Pine coffee aroma. Sweetness in there too. Dark appearance with wispy yellowish head. Low carbonation. Creamy texture. Bitter aftertaste but there is a sweetness in the malts. Woody pine dark chocolate with liquorice flavours. Well balanced. Very nice.
