4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. A dark brown pour with a tan head that is big. Nice chocolate on the nose along with some rye grain and ash tray. The first thing I taste is the nice hop bite and that is quickly followed with roasted notes. Coffee and chocolate balance well. The aftertaste is, again, those hops. They are bitter and fruity with some sulfur. They also add some brightness to a beer that is dark and roasty. There is a lot on top of the hops but they seem more complex than common European varieties. This beer has nice complexity and balance. Not only that, but it is just plain good.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A bit of a smoky touch touch this porter adds some originality to the overall drink. Flavor has a decently roasty malt presence as well. Nice creamy texture on the finish. Reminds me a lot of a melted milk chocolate candy. Right amount of sweetness. Smooth like a porter but with the complexity and originality of an impy stout.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Pours a deep, warm sable just a hair above black with a very thick and rather persistent tan head. Strong, smoky aroma has notes of roast coffee, licorice and semi-sweet chocolate. Bold flavor has a smoky overtone and includes coffee, licorice and chocolate tones plus a bitter hoppy note and more than a hint of sweetness. Full-bodied texture is smooth and quite fizzy, leaving a smoky, chocolaty finish. If this is not the best porter I have ever had, it is certainly one of the best. Keep up the good work, Mikkeller!

500 ml bottle shared by Doodler (thanks Scott) poured a clear dark reddish brown with a small lingering brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, bitter chocolate and charcoal. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of roasted malt, bitter chocolate and earthiness with a smooth lingering bitter chocolate finish.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On the Second Day of Christmas 2011 the beer gods gave to me... A mighty fine imperial porter. Pours a dark brown color with a creamy foam caramel head. Aroma of heavy roast and caramel with hints of candi sugar, citrus and earthiness. A sweet caramel taste with nice hop hit and some roastiness on the finish. Excellent.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
50cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. Black colour, beige brown head. Aroma of mostly soft vanilla, cream, some brown sugar, dark fruits and liquorice. Flavour is medium sweet, vanilla, a bit of molasses, liquorice, earth, coffee/moccha, some alcohol, hard roasted malts, bitter roasted finish. Light to medium bodied. Nice, tasty, could’ve used a bit more body considering ABV.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a dark chocolate brown with a thick creamy tan head that sits on top as a 2 inch head for ages.
Aroma is very roasty ith lots of dark chocolate malts, cocoa powder and hints of espresso beans. Maybe even a hint of smoke with some light oak notes.
Taste isn’t quite as robust as the aroma. There are sweet chocolate notes and roasted dark malts. There may be a little more green hops as well but the coffee and cocoa powder are more subtle.
Mouthfeel is smooth and fairly light bodied for the style, a tad watery even.
This is a nice porter but it’s not quite up to the standard of the Hill Farmstead Everett I had last night. Good but not great.
