COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
American Style is an international collaboration between the godfather of all gypsy brewers, Mikkeller, and one of the new stars of the US tenant brewing scene, Prairie Artisan Ales. Mikkel Borg BjergsÝ and Chase Healey journeyed to Flanders to brew this twist on an American-style IPA with Dirk Naudts at De Proefbrouwerij . Predictably, itís loaded with West Coast hops. What you might not have guessed, though, is that it was fermented exclusively with a special strain of Brettanomyces claussenii thatís light on the funkiness, but really aromatic. It leaves behind an astoundingly well attenuated IPA, which means itís good for drinkiní. A serious amount of West Coast hops are added to the whirlpool and as dry hops to compliment the tropical notes from the Brett.

(Draught at Bishopís Arms Folkungagatan, Stockholm, 10 March 2014) Pale amber colour with frothy, white head. Fruity, hoppy nose with citrus, grapefruit and spicy hints of brett. Malty, hoppy taste with notes of apricots, grapefruit, rye bread, a touch of wild yeast and a generous earthy, citric bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, with balanced sweetness. Solid and complex IPA, with a wild touch. Very nice.

Solid. Still thrown a little by Prairie's flavor profiles, but I think that's a good thing. Always something surprising and unexpected.

On tap at McNellieís OKC. Pours amber with a bit of haze. The foamy white head lasts just a bit, leaving decent lacing. Smells of malt, apricots, hops and just a bit of funk. Nice bit of pine and citrus, and I love what the brett adds. The bitterness builds a bit as the beer warms, but itís never overpowering. Medium mouth, but it has a bit of crispness to it. Yes, itís an IPA, but you can definitely feel Prairieís affinity for farmhouse ales. Teaming up was a great idea. For those times when I canít decide between an IPA or saison, this is the best of both worlds.

Bought this on two occasion and both times shared the entire bottle and forgotten to take note. Grapefruit and tiny hints of attic in the aroma, crisp mouthfeel, balanced bitterness with subtle funk. Awesome stuff

Bottle, shared during our epic night at MicroBar in Reykjavik, with Arnie and Stein. We actually were allowed downstairs into the private stash secret fridge area where this gem was discovered and brought up for boisterous consumption! Beautiful pink grapefruit, papaya, coniferous hop character with an underlying light funk that slowly asserts itself, either as the beer warms or the palate calibrates. Light and creamy mouthfeel. Highly complex, with terrific flavours. Fantastic!
