COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
American Style is an international collaboration between the godfather of all gypsy brewers, Mikkeller, and one of the new stars of the US tenant brewing scene, Prairie Artisan Ales. Mikkel Borg Bjergsø and Chase Healey journeyed to Flanders to brew this twist on an American-style IPA with Dirk Naudts at De Proefbrouwerij . Predictably, it’s loaded with West Coast hops. What you might not have guessed, though, is that it was fermented exclusively with a special strain of Brettanomyces claussenii that’s light on the funkiness, but really aromatic. It leaves behind an astoundingly well attenuated IPA, which means it’s good for drinkin’. A serious amount of West Coast hops are added to the whirlpool and as dry hops to compliment the tropical notes from the Brett.

Tapped at Hostinec Richtar Jakub in Bratislava/Slovakia. Overall a very tasty IPA, more citrusy if not a bit sour in aroma and taste. I love the west coast style IPAs and this one fulfilled my expectations.

From tap at Richtar Jakub. Clear golden color with small head. Intense fruity aroma. Flavor of apricot, honey. Balance towards bitterness which lingers in aftertaste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap at RJ. Aroma orange, citrusy, light flowery intensely hoppy. Hazy orange colour, stable head. What the label says "you might not have guessed" is instantly obvious by first sip. Brett features with moderate funk and bubblegum, prominent even more in the finish. Hops contributes orange and resiny flavours. Overall very good, enjoyable, nice departure from typical American IPAs.

Tap. Excellent aroma: fresh overriped tropics - mango, lichi, peach and some wild notes below that. Taste is smooth and dry with sour and belgian accents. Brets are cosily inserted here - any exarreration. Tasty!

On tap @ Cardinal, Stavanger, Brewers night. Pours hazy golden with a very small and short lived head. Aroma is nice tropical hops with mango, pineapples and peach, with a nice and light funky brett on top. Medium to creamy body with quite soft carbonation. Flavour is bitter hops with grapefruit and peach, as well as a tart fruity brett with horseblanket, and lemon. Nice lingering citrusy finish.

Unclear, dark golden. Small, but persistent off-white head. Crushed bitter grapefruit seeds in somehwhat unfresh aroma. Citrus sourness in aroma. Oily moutfeel. Neither crips nor refreshing.
