Magnum bottle. Wow. Holy moly. This is one tasty beer. It’s a fermented Douglas fir candle. It’s a fireplace-warmed cabin that is surrounded by 4 foot snowdrifts. It’s a clear winter night with falling temperatures. It’s everything I want when the months end in -ber and -ary. This beer is fir, hops, snow, frost, twinkling stars in Orion’s belt, and warmth. I will buy this for the rest of my life. Incredible.

Ok..time for beer 500 to tell me it’s strory. Christmas tale this time. Pours nice hazy amber with big light brown head and lots of lacing. Aroma hits me before I even bring my nose closer to glass. Ipa-like fresh, good aroma has pine, citrus, caramel malt with nuts, hoppy with great malting also. Very nice. Like to take a sniff now and then while tasting this. As it warms the malting rises it’s head. Lively and nuanced. Taste is medium bitter, sweet, medium to full bodied, oily feel, long bitter finish, soft carbonation. Glad I chose to leave this one for my milestone beer. Loved it. Obviously crafted by people who love beer, really enjoyable. Gonna get this for Christmas, recommended.

I will have a happy new year!

sampled 75 cl. bottle @ Kerstbierfestival 2011: A: deep hazy orange with seizable fluffy white head – S: delicious sweet american hops & touch on the sweeter side spices – T: Belgian yeast, oranges & citrus, fruity, touch of spices & hint malt, very hoppy, sweetness in the back, even touch “rijsttaart” in the finish, balanced, sweet & hoppy – B: dry & fizzy – delicious but more of an IIPA than a wit

Bottle at Chriso Gaylord tasting 09. Massive thanks to Fonefan for this one. My beer of the tasting, even though there was a lot to choose from. Lots of hops on aroma. Lovely. Really really good. Like the Festival 2009 beer. Lovely. Hops are stunning. Would happily dirnk the whole 1.5 litre bottle to myself. Have I mentioned the hops????

A Mes rate. Bottle at Chris O’s Night of the Gaylords. A very attractive orange amber with a thin but lasting white head. Just utterly incredible hops. Spruce, cranberry, red current, marvelously tropical, faint spice and pepper and just all round bloody outstanding. Glorious palate, long dry finish. Yet another reason to love Mikkeller.

THOUGHTS: Nice, but not Christmasy. Nice hybrid. Actually very nice. It kept getting better as it warmed. Orange, caramel and spice were the main aromas and flavors.
TECHNICAL: Magnum bottle. Poured a cloudy, light to medium amber with a large, creamy, off-white head that mostly, but slowly, diminished and that left excellent lacing. The aroma had moderate caramel and wheat; moderate to heavy pine, grapefruit and orange hops; light to moderate doughy, spicy and dusty yeast; orange; and coriander. The initial flavor was light to mod sweet, mod to heavily acidic and moderately bitter; while the finish was moderately sweet, mod to heavily acidic and heavily bitter with a long duration. There was caramel malt, wheat, lots of citrus, orange, coriander, pepper, grapefruit; some other fruitiness, spicy yeast and hops, and some metallic hops. The medium to full body was creamy, then dry with fizzy carbonation and a metallic and moderately astringent finish.
