drfabulous (1212), Columbia, Missouri, USA Mar 27, 2009 Didn’t even know that this beer changes each year. I’m getting the 11 percent. Very strong. I can’t remember for how long I have had this. Still lots of carbonation. Malty and with caramel. Good sweetness. Maybe some cherry in the aroma. Bit of chocolate. Nice. fonefan (10868), VestJylland, Denmark Mar 25, 2009 Bottle 75cl. @ home. Clear dark brown color with a large, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, cacao, moderate hoppy, orange shell, wooden spunce, alcohol. Flavor is heavy sweet and moderate to heavy bitter with a long duration, and a dry dry finish. Body is medium to full, texture is oily - syruy, carbonation is soft and smooth, finish feel is light alcoholic. [20081208] Hansen (2235), Randers, Denmark Mar 24, 2009 Dark brown coloured and a bit hazy. Light brown head, mostly lasting. Aroma is roasted, fruity, lightly spicy, pepper. Flavor starts heavy sweet and finish moderate bitter. Creamy, syrup texture. Soft carbonation. rane (493), Nibe, Denmark Mar 22, 2009 Bottle. Dark brown with brown head. Aroma of chocolate, malts and tarr. Taste dark malts and alcohol, much like a stout. I didn´t find much belgian strong ale in it, still fine. ante (2904), Stockholm, Sweden Mar 22, 2009 Bottled. Pours out in an opaque dark brown colour with a white rich head. Rich and warming aroma of figs, coriander, fudge, pepper and yeast. Full-bodied with yeasty, spicy and rather crisp notes of coriander, anise, nutmeg, sweet licorice and fudge. Long warming spicy finish of anise, milky chocolate and coriander. Felt a bit simplistic and un-inspired compared to last years versions. Still tasty. bierkoning (5987), La Tropica, Netherlands Mar 19, 2009 Corked bottle. Deep dark brown color, almost opague with a big creamy head. Coreander, chocolate, pepper, licorice and caramel in the aroma. Full bodied, malty sweet spicy flavor with coreander, nutmeg, chocolate, caramel and pepper. The alcohol is there, but not too abundant. Too spicy for my taste, but this is a well made beer. MrManning (1634), London, Ontario, Canada Mar 16, 2009 Bottle sampled at Chancey Smith’s in London, ON- Very dark brown, almost black. Pours a frothy mocha cap. Nice sticky lace. Nose is belgian candy sugars, dark pit fruits, perfume, spices, some alcohol and a bit of yeasty mint. Tastes quite sweet and minty. Dark fruit, cotton candy, milk chocolate, some woody earthy coffee, with a sharp, dry hop profile making it seem a bit less sweet. Creamy on the palate, perhaps a bit too heated for mass consumption, but overall quite well done. Thanks for getting in this one Milos! Ungstrup (14754), Frederiksberg, Denmark Mar 8, 2009 Drunk to celebrate my rating number 12,400. A pitch black beer with a huge dark brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of alcohol as well as lighter notes of ginger, coriander, coffee, and cocoa. The flavor is sweet and very roasted and spicy - especially coriander, but also notes of alcohol and lighter notes of cocoa, leading to a dry cocoa and roasted finish. The alcohol is felt both on the tongue and palate, and lingers for a long time.
