Pailhead (2572), Allen Park, Michigan, USA Jan 29, 2009 Bottle: The aroma has lots of chocolate with moderate spice, fruit, and light smoke. It pours a dark brown with no transparency and a moderate beige head that lasts a minute or so. The flavor has lots of chocolate up front with some light roastiness in the background. The finish is moderately spicy with some light orange peel. Medium-full bodied with soft carbonation. patrick767 (2016), fort wayne, Indiana, USA Jan 28, 2009 bottle at Ft Wayne locals tasting - Pours very dark brown with a thin light tan head. The aroma includes spices, dark fruit, malts, and some alcohol. The flavor is an enjoyable blend of sweet malt, spice - especially cinnamon - and dark fruit that leads into a pleasantly bitter finish to a full bodied brew. The aroma isn’t quite what it could be but the flavor and overall impression really tie it all together. Superb. BeerHawk (1175), Huntsville, Alabama, USA Jan 27, 2009 Bottle shared by nquals @ the Barrios tasting. Poured black with a creamy tan head that left good lace. Fruity aroma with some alcohol, licorice, and spices mixed in. The flavor has chocolate, molasses, and cinnamon with a nice backing of hops. Medium body with a big malty aftertaste. nqualls (1429), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Jan 25, 2009 750 mL bottle at the Barrios Nashville tasting. Poured a dark, ruddy brown color with a three finger tan head that quickly dissipated. The aroma was dark fruit, anise and some alcohol. The flavor was heavy with dark fruit, brown sugar, molasses, cinnamon and a bit of warming alcohol in the finish. The palate was above average, with a silky mouthfeel, soft carbonation and a medium/full body. I was pleased with this beer, as I am with most of Mikkeller’s brews. bu11zeye (5430), Frisco, Texas, USA Jan 25, 2009 (750ml bottle, 2008 vintage) Pours a dark brown body with a small tan head. Flavor of dark wheat malt, pine, brown sugar, molasses, and cinnamon. Some yeast and alcohol on the finish. Enjoyable holiday brew.
