Commercial Description:
Brewed by Mikkeller at De Proefbrouwerij in Lochristi, Belgium.

Mikkeller Christmas beer anno 2008. Santa’s Little Helper is a dark, strong Belgian ale, lightly spiced with sweet orange peel, coriander seeds, cinnamon and cocoa. This year’s version is recognized by less sweetness than the 2007 version, a fresh hop bite, balanced by the sweetness from the coriander and orange peel and a big bold body. Enjoy now or keep it in the cellar for many years to come.
Ingredients : Water, malt (pale, special-B and chocolate), flaked wheat, dark candy syrup, dark cassonade, hops (northern brewer, hallertauer, styrian goldings and simcoe), spices (sweet orange peel, coriander seeds, cinnamon and cocoa) and yeast.

2008 Bottle: Pours a very dark brown with a tall, frothy tan head and nice lacing. Wonderfully spiced aroma with both sweet caramel and roasty characteristics. Flavor is very dry and toasted. Flavors of chocolate, wood, and earth. Tasty and very unique like most brews by Mikkeller. The body is full and transitions are smooth.

Draught at Capone’s: Pungent aroma of fruit, hops, mango, orange, coriander, and some cocoa. Poured very dark brown in color with a large, creamy, dense, brown head that diminished but lasted throughout. Opaque. Slightly sparkling. Very good lacing. Flavor is medium bitter and not at all sweet. Tastes of hops, light fruit, resin, pine, light cocoa, and light grapefruit. Medium body. Dry texture. Average carbonation. Bitter hop finish is dry.

Pours an opaque dark brown with an everlasting creamy head. The aroma is cocoa and nuts (somewhere between hazelnuts and pecans). There is a faint bit of brown sugar and dark fruit as well. This isn’t mind blowing, but it’s pretty darn tasty.

Mahogany with a nice tan head. Spicy, cocoa, and herbal aroma. A bit sweet but not cloying, with a lovely finishing bitterness.

Bottled 75 cl (BB 09/2012)
Dark brown color, small beige head. Cinnamon, dark prunes, licorice, molasses. Slightly pine hoppy, cinnamon-clove spicey, licorice. Finish has alcohol and spices. Tannines, woody notes in the slightly hoppy aftertaste. Less spicey and more mellow than fresh 2009.
