4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Appearance: very dark brown, almost like a porter; thick, creamy off-white head that lingered in the trappist goblet throughout; rich, thick lacing. Aroma: warm, dark malts, chocolate, dark fruits (cherries?) in syrup, raisins, molasses, hint of cinnamon and clove. Taste: rich dark toasty malts, bittersweet chocolate, bit of brulee’d sugar, anise, ginger, hint of cloves, molasses, brown sugar, and a nice dosage of sprucy, resinous hops. Finish: lingering sense of warm dark bread just eaten, with a yeasty spiciness mixing with the hops to freshen the palate. Notes: A superlatively enjoyable holiday beer. This was my first beer from Mikkeller. Judging by this one, it certainly won’t be the last.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared thanks to Rlgk. Pours dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma of big raisin, prunes, overripe dark fruits, Christmas spices, toffee and a slight dank mold aspect, not in an unpleasant way, from the aging. Flavor is light heavy sweet and light moderate bitter with a real booziness coming out in the palate. Full bodied with soft carbonation.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Aged 3 years. Dark brown pour under a thin tan head. Nose is strong with some herbal and cocoa notes, booze esters, and mulling spice, maybe some cinnamon. Flavor is big and bold, a bit heavy on the Christmas spice notes, some floral tones, and lots of boozy plum. Warm cinnamon and malt finish. But again, a bit too dry and herbal.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle @ home, aged three years. Brownish red color and a beige frothy head with small bubbles. Nose is sweet and port wine like, notes of dark fruits, raisins mostly, spices, nuts, toffee, red apple, a hint of licorice and a lightly roasted character. Taste is smooth, sweet and spicy, with balanced sweetness from toffee & cocoa butter. Nuts, red apple, cinnamon, raisins & vanilla. Some alcahol shines through but at pleasant levels. Medium to full body. Finishes nicely with a dry and woody, somewhat tart bitterness and a lingering honeylike sweetness. A wonderful beer for Christmas eve.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Opaque chocolatey brown in color with a good amount of tan head. Fair to good lacing and nice collar throughout. Aroma is a cornacopia of spices, some deep caramel, and faintly buttery. Very thick body and medium carbonation. Taste is rich caramel and all that spice! Taste is good, but the aroma hits me better. Well balanced, but kind of two dimensional.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a dark brownish black from the bottle with thin ring of bubbly tan head that leaves light lace. Aroma is nice spice notes, mace and cinnamon, with hints of roasted malt and sweetness. Taste follows, more of the spice than the nose, but still incredibly well balanced and no hint of the booze. Very soft carbonation after this long, medium body. One of my favorite christmas beers.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Aroma: Caramel, cough drop. Resembles a port wine.
Appearance: dark brown. Nearly no head. A bit boring look.
Taste: medium to heavy sweetness.
Palate: medium body, sticky, soft carbonation.
A very sweet beer, which tends to be a bit too much. Share it with others for your own sake. Nevertheless, it’s a decent beer.
