4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Great aroma of corky wood, red wine and whisky. Tastes equally clearly of whisky with a good sweet and bitter balance. Aftertaste with a great balance, but maybe a bit too alcoholic. Beer is black with a little head, which disappears quite fast.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Pours hazy dark brown with virtually no head. Aroma is is dominated by whisky and very overripe fruit, lots of glue, wood, dark fruit, phenols, chocolate and pear. Taste is moderate sweet, bitter and light acidic. Body is light+, texture is thin and oily, carbonation is soft. Finishes quite warming with a sour woody note and harsh whisky. This version shouldn’t have been released.

2.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Tasted alongside the white wine edition. Pours black with a thin tan head. A forceful alcohol burn on the nose backlit by some roasted malt character. Caramel and prune juice from the base beer (which is excellent) muddied by the barrel ageing. Better than the White wine version but not by much...

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
375ml bottle. Black ringed with a yellow tan halo. Harshly spiritous aroma with hints of Christmas pud, whisky-dipped malt loaf..er, massive throat-burning whiskey of the blended, inexpensive kind. Flavour totally engulfed by crap whiskey. Hints of blackcurrant and liquorice if you really go digging. Yuk. A great beer ruined. At a tenner a bottle will drink the lot on principle but I’m afraid this is totally one-dimensional, moving towards the plughole and seriously not for me.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Black brown colour, no head. Aroma of roasted malts, whisky, chocolate and molasses. Roasted malts flavour, whisky, caramel, alcohol. Light sour touch. Full body, quite a bit of CO2, finish chocolate and whisky.
OK beer, but expected more.
