Bottle. Pours black with creamy beige head. The aroma is dark ripe fruit, roasted malts, spices, chocolate and some hops. The flavour is roasted and spicy with notes of toasted caramel, chocolate, berries and some hops. Creamy texture. Berries and fruit in the finish. Great! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Shared by jayhawk73. Thanks Jeff. The beer is near black with a thick beige head. Lasting retention and decent lacing. The aroma brings classic Danish roast scents, rich roasted malt, dark chocolate, yeast. Smells similar to a Danish stout. The flavor is rich and smooth. Drinks more like a European stout than a BSDA. Relatively light in body for the style, but by no means thin. Alcohol hidden very well. A solid beer. I would definitely have this again.

Aroma has dark sweet malting, licorice, herbs, citrus, pine. Lots of character and nuances. Looks also great. oily black, creamy frothy long head is beige. After aroma taste is surprisingly crisp, noppiness more in front. Good taste. Dry coffee and elements from aroma. Crisp roasted, dry finish, full. Great Christmas beer for dessert or just to enjoy.

Bottle, 75cl. It’s looking really gorgeous this one, with a dark reddish brown body, and lacings left as the two-finger, dense beige head slides down the sides of the glass while drinking. Licorice, chocolate, coffee and some dried fruits hits the nose, as well as some spiced hints with cinnamon amongst other. Quite dryish on the palate, full-bodied and soft. Some alcohol warmth, and a nice bitterness in the flavor. Coffee, chocolate, licorice and dried fruits too. Bitter and roasted in the end. Certainly a good way to make a Christmas beer. 111229

served on tap into a half pint ’tulip’ style glass at the Craft Beer Co, Clerkenwell (Dec ’11). Dark brown to black colour. Smells fruity, dried fruits, raisens, orange peel, cranberry. Tastes of mildly spiced fruits, berries, toffee, caramel a hint of nutmeg perhaps. Mouthfeel, creamy with a dry-ish finish, great taste and feel in the mouth and on the palate. Overall a rich complex beer that did not dissapoint

1 finger beige head that sank to 5mm, black-brown body. Nose: Licorice, ginger, dates and prunes. Aroma: Licorice, licorice-root, ginger, cinnamon, pumpernickel and dates. A little sharp, rough and dry spiceyness. Vineous. Some bitterness in the ending.

Medium beige head. Opaque black body. Strong spicy roasty cocoa aroma with notes of cloves, cinnamon, and anise. Dry-sweet cocoa and alcohol taste with strong spicy notes of cloves and cinnamon. Full-bodied. Mild, smooth, and somewhat hot mouthfeel. Dryish minty spicy earthy roasty aftertaste with caramelly coffee and cocoa notes. Hard to identify the spices, as the beer is powerfully flavoured, and everything seems to sort of mix together nicely. Nice, sippable. (0.375l bottle, I forget where from.)

Bottle, 14C. Almost black with a tan head that fades to a coat but laces well. Gentle aroma of plums, cinnamon, dark sugars. Full-bodied but not heavy, gentle carbonation. Tends to creamy rather than syrupy. Taste is sweet with balancing spices - star anise and cinnamon, maybe some mace and cloves- , bitterness and coffee astringency in about equal measure. Alcohol is not there but not raw (although 750ml is a bit much for one). The flavours are fine but not terribly deep - it’s the graciousness of the balance that charms.
