Dark ruby color, big head is beige. Chocolatey and coffeyish nose with resny hops and spices (orange peel, anise, maybe fennel). Some fruity yeast notes. Sweet, dark candy sugary taste, rum and some raisins hit the taste buds at first. Dark coffeyish and chocolatey finish with medium bitterness and spices. Sugary flavors are nice, but it seriously lack maltiness. Now the palate is somehow thin and slippery and the finish seems to disappear leaving only roasted notes and spice behind.

Pours a clear and dark brown beer with a beige head. The aroma is malt, caramel, fruit, dried fruit, spices and alcohol. The flavor follows the nose. The palate is alcoholwarmth and sweetness. Overall an average beer with a high level of alcohol.

On tap. Opaque dark brown with a small, rough off-white head. The aroma is a bit odd, a strange spiciness but also gluey with distinct alcohol. Full-bodied with dried dark fruits and brown sugars. Alcoholic finish. I bet age would do good to this. 041111

UPDATED: FEB 20, 2012 Long Island, NY - 750 mL bottle poured a dense dark brown with beige head and slight lacing. You can smell dark fruit as you pour this one. Aroma is of raisins, figs, dark roasted malts and some sort of spice. Taste is along the same lines it malt and alcohol taste are too over powering. Ok for a Christmas beer but I think the labeling oversells this one. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

0.375 l bottle, thanks hanniku! Opaque dark brown color with creamy head. Sweet aroma with dark sugar, solvent, licorice, pepper, nutmeg, coffee and hint of raisins. Thick sweet flavor with woody spices (licorice, nutmeg, clove), chocolate-licorice roastiness and toffee. Full bodied with smooth palate. Bitterness, licorice, charcoal and woody spices in finish. A bit hot on alcohol, but not bad. Spiciness is in fairly good control.

Bottle. Pours black with a dark brownish tinge against the light and a large, thick, latte head. Aroma is fairly sweet with liquorice, coffee, alcohol, tones of christmassy spices. Taste is rather sweet though, again with coffee and spices and roastedness as well as alcohol. Palate is medium, could be fuller. Rather disappointing.
