Black in color with a tan head. Nice dark fruit and licorice aromas to this. A bit of ash, some cocoa powder, roasted malt, chocolate, cola, and a light spiciness. Lightly sweet with a lot of the roasted malt, licorice, and ash characteristics taking center stage. A bit of cola sweetness, chocolate, and dark fruits. Mild spice flavor on the finish.

Dark ruby color, big head is beige. Chocolatey and coffeyish nose with resny hops and spices (orange peel, anise, maybe fennel). Some fruity yeast notes. Sweet, dark candy sugary taste, rum and some raisins hit the taste buds at first. Dark coffeyish and chocolatey finish with medium bitterness and spices. Sugary flavors are nice, but it seriously lack maltiness. Now the palate is somehow thin and slippery and the finish seems to disappear leaving only roasted notes and spice behind.

Pours a clear and dark brown beer with a beige head. The aroma is malt, caramel, fruit, dried fruit, spices and alcohol. The flavor follows the nose. The palate is alcoholwarmth and sweetness. Overall an average beer with a high level of alcohol.

On tap. Opaque dark brown with a small, rough off-white head. The aroma is a bit odd, a strange spiciness but also gluey with distinct alcohol. Full-bodied with dried dark fruits and brown sugars. Alcoholic finish. I bet age would do good to this. 041111

Pour is hazy brownish with thin tan head, aroma brings notes of cinnamon, ginger, bready sweetness with some toffee, hints of chocolate, caramel in there as well. Taste is a mix of sweet candi sugar, toffee, and caramel, some dark fruit notes lead into spices with ginger and clove, finishes with a hint of bitterness and chocolate. Fairly nice but a bit sweet.

Sample with food pairing (Crunchie?), Spuyten Duyvil, Brooklyn, 17/12/11. Some raw booziness in the nose beneath chocolate coated raisins, light coal dust. Chocolate enrobed nut hints, weak roast. Didn’t pick up any spices. Too boozy/needs time.
