Aroma is lightly toasted rye bread, chocolate chocolate chip cookie and some five spice with a hint of anise. Flavor is awesome. I get pumpernickel snappiness up front followed by some spice and then back to the brown bread, finishing with a slight hop resin note. A luscious mouthfeel that comes off not heavy or oily at all, but rather air infused and dense like whipped cream style. Great beer. Thanks Mikkeller. 2011 25.4 oz.

(bottle 31 /12-2011) medium brown head, black color, roasted coffee aroma, dry roasted taste. Like a smoked imperial stout. BB date 25/08/17, bottled 25/08/11.

Fragrant, but not in a perfume sense, more in the way that only beer can be, with hints of dark cocoa. Wonderfully and unyieldingly dark, with a persistent, rocky head of tan. Such a smooth, balanced taste for such a rich beer, leaning towards bitter; powerful but in no way overwhelming. It’s a full, creamy body with taste of fruity esters, that leaves that beautiful warming sensation from the throat to the belly. One of the best Belgians I’ve ever had. Buy up what you can find!

Bottle from systembolaget. It poured a dark liquid with big brown head. Dark malty smell with spices, ripe fruit and some yeast. Similar taste. Complex and well balanced beer. Very enjoyable.

Tap @ Henrik. This is a deep dark brown one with a nice big, tan and bubbly head that both sticks around for a while and laces quite massively down the sides of the glass. Served way to cold of course, so it need some warming up. Normally that’s not to much of a problem but when you have been walking out in the rainy/snowy Bergen weather, warming a ice cold glass is not the first thing your hands want to do. Anyhow, after a while the aroma is filled with sweet chocolate ice cream, tons of roasted malts, lots and lots of woody vanilla and some hints of leather. Powerful on the aroma. Must admit that I’ve always thought that this was a imperial stout, but I now understand why It’s a Belgian. It has this thick and chewy - but also light and fluffy - almost velvety mouthfeel and the carbonation level is small-prickling and quite average. Chocolaty-roasted silky flavors with vanilla, wood, spices, yeast and brown caramel fudge. It ends perfectly hoppy-bitter with this everlasting prickling chocolaty, espresso powder, leather and dry finish and a warming slightly boozy aftertaste that lasts for quite a while. Heavy stuff from the Dane. I really like it! 29.12.2011

75cl bottle thanks to onkelgobber. Pours opaque black with a slim but attractive head. The nose has nuts and praline. The taste has more hazelnuts, toffee, some spice, ginger cake. The palate is full bodied, with a lovely long texture that leans into the finish. Overall, absolutely gorgeous.

Pours deep black into a snifter. Mocha head with medium retention recedes leaving spider lacing. Dark chocolate, raisins, vanilla and roasted nut aromas. Medium bodied with dark chocolate covered pit fruit upfront turning dusty and hot in the lasting espresso finish.

0,375l bottle. About 1 year old. Pitch black with huge brown head. Aroma: Strong burnt, like sweet liqueur and dark fruits. Taste: Light smoky, dates, hopped and cognac. Full body with long and strong hopping. Average carb. No taste of alcohol at all. Improved at the cellar.

Deep, deep reddish brown with a generous tan head that dissipated to a solid film and left very nice lacing. Chocolate and dark fruit up front on the nose, with hints of gingerbread and coffee poking through. Sweet dark fruits highlight the flavor profile, accompanied by strong coffee notes and modest chocolate. Winter spices and warming alcohol are also present. Full bodied, rich creamy texture, average carbonation and the dark fruit sweetness lingers in the finish.
