750ml brown bottle. 10.5% abv on import stick, 10.9%abv on beer label. Deep dark brown pour, kinda murky. tan head, frothy, creamy and sticky at the edges of the glass. Nose has dark chocolately malts, spruce, toffee, black liquorice. Taste has cocoa, chocolate syrup, spruce, alcohol, spice, marmalade, some odd saltiness. Malty finish, cocoa powder, yeast, spice, a little bitterness. Medium body, light in the mouth, relaxed carbonation. Pretty big beer, some aging would definitely round things out. Overall, some interesting flavours, but just to big a beer to really get into at the moment.

If I could give this beer an 11 I would. It’s perfect. Sorry I’m not so good at explaining what I like and don’t like. But I love Belgian beer and this one is now at the top of my list.

Nice light strong dark Christmas ale with quite little nose but a nice mouthfilling feel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: DEC 25, 2012 Black, small to medium tan head. Chocolate, some coffee, dark fruit. Spices are subtle. Full body. Excellent balance and finish. Yet to have a Mikkeller beer I wasnt impressed with.

chocolate, coffee, wine, woody scent. dark brown almost black color. Initial sweet chocolate taste, a bit too bitter for me. Wasn’t expecting it to be bitter. Other than that, pretty good.

from Erzbierschof - black beer with a rather poor beige foam left; aroma of black chocolate with some coriander on top of it; pretty sweet; full-bodied; a light earthy tartness, residual sweetness with hints of candi sugar and chocolate; some lingering sharpness - not really convincing
