Aroma: ash, burnt but not smoke, some yeast, nuts, some coffee. App: Black, clear with some red edges. Small off white foam. Taste: Really enjoyable, sweetness with a little/moderate bitterness! Long lasting. Palate: Body is a bit to light. (high fermentable sugars..?)

Bottle at Craig’s. Pours clear dark brown with a thin beige head. Aromas of dark sugar, clove. Taste is sweet. Finishes thin. Hope it picks up with a few years on it.

Bottle from Systembolaget. 9.1% version. Pours brown. Medium amount of tan to light brown head. Prunes, dates, alcohol, smoke/peat, chocolate, coffee and hint of vanilla nose. Medium, almost borderline thin body. Dry mouthfeel. Body and mouth feel reminiscent of a dry stout. Bitter. Not much sweetness. Smoke, bitter chocolate, coffee and some roasted malt flavour. Lovely smell, but pretty lackluster in my opinion.

Thanks to djoeye for sharing a 330ml bottle, 9.1 % abv. Pours a dense fawn-coloured head. Opaque red-brown coloured body. Inviting aromas of brown malts and herbal hops. Semi-sweet flavours of brown and black malts, caramel, coffee, chocolate, added by a touch of cinnamon and followed by leafy hops to the ending. Well bodied. Peasant on the swallow (Tromsø 22.01.2015).

Clear red brown beer, beige top. Aroma; caramel, milk, and maybe Mikkeller lost his christmas fruit cake into here. Taste; hops, milk, spices and more spices, cinnamon, apple, chocolate, leaves - good body, rich - and finish is quite dark with leaves and chocolate into it. Drink a fruit cake. 10.9%ABV. Belgian Strong Ale. Poured out of the bottle a clear brown black, again I cannot resist the comparison to a local drink of grass jelly, chin chow. 30-35ºSRM. Nose is fruity and refreshingly herb-like. Again, there is that reference to chin chow where the nose is a clean light sugary aroma with a cold character to it that suggests a refreshing herbal or even medicinal aroma. Mouthfeel is light and playful. The name should say it all, since the palate is dominated by Christmas flavors, nutmeg, cinnamon, rum, fruitcake, walnuts, pecans, sweet sherry, sweet date cake, cranberries and even a suggetion of christmas turkey fom the umami that the wheat gives this brew. All this hyperbole of course rests on a backbone of perfectly roasted dark sweet malt Very expertly done. Wouldn’t expect any less from Mikkeller. A very well balanced, spicy homage to the Most Wonderful Time of the Year. I don’t generally like spicy brews relegating them to the "gimicky" pile and I want so badly to gove this Mikkeller a place on The List, but it will have to stay on the "interesting" pile for now.

Oddly bright brown/dark ruby with a greenish ringed head. Heavy breath of clingfilmed christmas pudding and light festive spice nose. Initial taste is crusty berry, fruitcake and pushed along by the ABV. Carbonation is a bit busier than previous years, mouthfeel rich creamy. Finishes light chewy spice and cherry sweetness.

Bottle, 10pm Curfew Tasting
