[EBF @ Copenhagen, September 2008] Average fizzy white head that mostly diminished. Fair display of lacework. Pitch black color. Aroma of heavy oak and Sherry, coffee, chocolate, liquorish, dried fruit, vanilla. Quite full bodied with an average carbonation and thick alcoholic texture. Heavy sweet flavor with good counter bitterness. Lingering Sherry warming alcoholic and strong malty base finish.

Pitch black color, tiny expresso head. Roasted, oaky aroma. Full-bodied. Roasted, coffeish, licorice, oaky notes, dry aftertaste. Alcoholic touch in the finish. Very sophisticated, excellent impy.

Tap @ EBF 2008. Black and opague. Malt and licorice in the aroma. Grapes, roasted malt and licorice in the flavor. Alcoholic and vinous, that should be the sherry. Quality stuff.

UPDATED: SEP 30, 2008 Draught Quite resistant brown-beige head, jet-black beer. Alcohol, indeed sherry, grape kernel oil, liquorice, some coffee. Sweet, despite all the overload. This was an oloroso cask, I suppose? Coal, some leafy vegetable, coffe and tobacco ash. Very oily, slick, full bodied. Very impressive, Most remarkably, I get indeed the sherry.

On tap @ European Beerfestival 2008. Pours black with a light brown head. Sweet with aromas of coacoa. Nicely rounded but still with some strong hops notes. Mild fruity liquir/sherry notes. Low carboantion. Full body. Nice complexity.

Draught at European Beer Festival, Copenhagen. Properly named regarding the appearance. Medicinal nose. Salty and dense. Very powerful with tar and vanilla. Quiite boozy and the medicinal flavour never really goes away. Compact and full bodied. The sweetness is too intense for me and the finish turns inky. I much preferred Black as Coal to this one.

On tap at festival in Copenhagen. Pours a pitch black with a tiny dark-brown head. The nose is very sweet, vinoes and you clearly sense the barrel-aging. Due to the tap it is served pretty cold, but is growing and developing between your heating hands to a complex and very nice imperial stout. As the aroma the taste is sweet and vinoes with hints of fudge, dark caramel, licorice, burned malts. Nice and heavy Imp. stout with a long lasting fresh, sweet and complex finish.
