COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
English: Amarillo is a very popular American hop variety, which has gone from strength to strength all over the world. Plenty of floral aromas and pine needles and plenty of raw bitter taste. This Single Hopped IPA is a chance to taste Amarillo completely isolated from other hops.
Ingredients : Water, malts (pilsner, cara-crystal and munich), hops (amarillo) and yeast.

[Comparison between Mikkeller Single Hop Amarillo, Simcoe and Warrior]
Slightly hazy medium to dark amber body with an off-white, very long-lived head that reduces to a layer with some additional build-up at the walls, good lacing. The aroma is strong, refreshing and heavy hoppy with lots of refreshing fruity notes. The taste is light sweet with a moderate to heavy bitter finish. A clean and somewhat simple flavour profile dominated by crisp and refreshing citric notes, especially grapefruit, and some resin and pine needles. It’s hard to say which is better, Amarillo or Simcoe. Amarillo might be a bit too simple and one dimensional, while the Simcoe is a bit too overripe and catty, at least when compared to the clean Amarillo. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, light dryness in the finish. A brilliant IPA!
[33 cl bottle, enjoyed 15 months before BB date, from Vinmonopolet Vika, Oslo]

One of my favourite hop varieties. Some floral aroma but mainly orange and pine. Pretty soft carbonation. Some malty caramel sweetness that transitions to a decent bitterness. Interesting isolation of hop, quite drinkable.

On draft at Churchkey in D.C. The beer is orange hued with a substantial white head. Decent retention and lacing. The aroma consists of citrus hops and fruits, particularly orange and a hint of pineapple. The flavor is a balance of hops and malt, with some caramel sweetness. The finish brings some bitterness and residual sweetness. I liked the Mikkeller Citra IPA more, though this was a decent beer. Worth a try. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 08-06-2011
