2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
My bottle label is some kind of abstract shades of brown as opposed to the image shown here, but apparently it’s the same inside. I should note that I think Mikkeller is an over-hyped, over-priced POS...at least in my experiences. However, I really like the idea of their single hop taste test with 19 hop varieties. So, let’s taste armadillo hops.
Aroma is, well...apparently what amarillo hops smell like, very piny. Appearance is a muddled brownish orange with sediment. Large head quickly dissipates. Taste is woody, chalky, and gamey if that makes sense to you. If this is a good representation of amarillo hops, I can cross them off my like list. Does this make the beer bad? Well, yes and no. Bad to me, because I apparently don’t care for amarillo hops. And since I use this site as a diary for ME and MY beer tastes...sorry Mikkeller, you get yet another bad check from me. However, I applaud your series idea and only wish the other 18 were available and damn it to hell wish they weren’t $9 a sample.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
4oz on tap at Ei8ht Ball. Half hazy orange color. Thin off-white head, bits and ropes of lace. Citrus, tangerine, some mild caramel malt, biscuit, mild toasty spicy metallic. Moderate sweet taste, light bitter. Bigger body. Smooth, kind of crisp lighter carbonation. Light slick. Decent interesting IPA to try. Nice citrusy hop aroma. A bit maltier and sweet, but still nice in that Mikkeller single hop way. Of course trying this fresh would be ideal, but considering the circumstance these are never too bad when I have the chance to try 4oz on tap, typically worth it to include them in a flight to try once.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Aroma: Sweet, bready (as warms), caramel and roasty malt, light hint of orange peel and grapefruit.
Flavor: Sweet, roasty caramel roast, mikan and white grapefruit without peel. Growing bitterness on a citrus finish.
Comment: More subtle than the Saaz and Sorachi Ace, Less aromatic but adds a nice orange flavor and bitterness plus citrus lift on the finish.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 16/20
One of the Single Hop IPAs made at the ’Proef’brouwerij. Very rocky and thick, yellowish white head - the positive effect of hops on head formation is clear. Misty amber colour, very citrussy hop nose, lime, orange zest, spiced gin, raw potato, oatmeal cookies, tonic water. Soft citrussy onset with medium carbonation, caramel malts in the background, quickly overpowered by a very strong, spicy, peppery, grassy, long hop bitterness.

2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
11.2 oz bottle poured in shaker no idea when brew was born. Pours brown, a ton of large sediment and a foamy off white head that stays. Light Amarillo (piney/leather) hoppy smell, really hardly anything on the nose. Hardly much flavor to this either, light and bubbly. Taste mildly hoppy with a grassy wintergreen aftertaste. Maybe it is past its best by date because it is hardly hoppy enough to be considered an Ipa. Bland and easy going, still gotta rate it cost $6.
