Originally brewed by Mikkeller, Denmark. Recent batch brewed by Mikkeller at De Proef Brouwerij, Lochristi-Hijfte, Belgium.
The third in the series of single hop IPAs from Mikkeller. Brewed with Cascade, a true American classic hop type. This hop is less powerful than the ones used in the previous two single hop IPAs - creating a great balance with the beers other aspects.
Ingredients : Water, malts (pilsner, cara-crystal and munich), hops (cascade) and yeast.

330ml bottle from Gallagher’s Beer World/El Irlandés. Pours a mostly clear amber with a big white head that shows long retention and leaves a thick film. Nose has a green hoppy aroma of lemongrass, lime and grapefruit. Mild resinous notes in the back and stronger green fruity notes kiwi, aloe vera and zest. Good but really soft. Not expressive enough. Taste has mild green bitterness. Herbal, citrusy and some soft fruity flavors. Lemon, grapefruit, kiwi and custard apple notes integrate into the overall citrusy expression. Medium body and soft carbonation. Moderate astringency and unnoticeable alcohol. This one seemed pleasant enough but slightly dull, lacking fun. Is Cascade too mellow for a single hop American-style IPA? I’d have to try another example.

33cl bottle at home from Beerodalom, Budapest. Body is hazy orange copper, head is big, beige, large bubbles, average lasting, good lacing. Nose is fruity, flavor is grapefruit, honey, tropical fruits, spices, tea, bread, light toasty, biscuit. Light to medium sweet, medium bitter, light fruity sour. Finish is long lasting hoppy heavy bitter. Medium body, dry texture, average carbonation. Quite easy but also dessertish, strong flavor with great balance, tasty hoppy IPA.

I wonder what it is Mikkeller does to give their beers their signature taste. I really loved this Single Hop Cascade IPA. It is delightfully soft in it’s mouthfeel and palate but has a strong nice bitter and hoppy aroma.

Bottle. Pours a hazy golden beer with a massive off white head on top. Aroma of grassy hops, slightly herbal and citrussy, Slightly malty in the back. Flavor is very bitter and citrussy, gets a bit softer after swallowing. Malt is present in the very back, but very light. High level of carbonation going on, long bitter afteraste. Very nicely balanced and overall a great example of a nice single hopped IPA.

Bottle from Tanakaya. Pours a golden copper with a nice fluffy white head that lingers throughout. Excellent lacing. Aromas of orange zest, stone fruit, light caramel and pineapple. Taste is more of the same. Quite bitter on the palate...almost like a burned bitterness (burned caramel). Orange zest and booze on the finish. Not bad, but not that special.
