Mikkeller X-series. The first in a series of single hop IIPA’s. Brewed with US hop variety Simcoe, a Mikkeller favourite.

Smells of berries... very thin pallet just like the other Chinook hop variant. Very experiment from Mikkeller.

(Draught) Pours hazy deep amber red. The aroma is full of green hops with notes of flowers, pine, black currant, tropical fruits and tangerines. The malt brings tones of toast and light caramel. Tiny oxidized with hints of wet dog. The flavour is light to medium sweet and near heavily bitter. Heavily hoppy and medium malty with tones of pine, resin, flowers, grapefruit, citrus peel, toast and caramel. The mouthfeel is clean and juicy with a “dry” finish. Medium to full bodied.

7/10 i mörkhet. Fruktig, milt humlig i doften. Hårt besk och lite oljig, lite aprikos i smaken. Besk söt eftersmak.

330ml bottle. Thick fluffy head of sandy coloured foam. Solid amber and honey coloured base. Caramel and butterscotch aroma that is very fragrant and inviting. Full flavour with mild bitterness and lingering on the palate. Very nice.

Bottle. One of my absolute favorites but from this bottle unfortunately not as fresh as I´ve had it before. Color is amber with a light yellow head. Aromas of gooseberry, lemon and pine. Taste of lemon, and herbs. Very fresh with a long lasting bitterness and good carbonation, medium body.

Sweet basil nose, some mint, a lot of ginger. Lightly sweet, lightly bitter. Fresh herbs and citrus. Nice.

#100- Pours a dark caramel color with a small, lingering white head. Smell is pine with lemon citrus notes. Spice of a quad with the bitterness of a good ipa and hints of pine aftertaste. Bitterness lasts long after the last sip. Medium bodied, medium carbonation, and extremely sticky. A more spice and a little sweeter than I’m used to in an IPA.

Over priced. $8 for a 12 oz. I love Simcoe hops, but did not have the same floral/pinney tones that I am use too. Maybe becauese it is not dry hopped? Hops did not pack the punch in an Imperial IPA that I am use too. There must be separate set of Scandinavian and American standards with hop levels based on the ratings. Nice alohol/nice malt balance nice blond amber color. A bit high on the carbonation, but not a problem. I’ll stick to Dogfish head or Founders.

I don’t know... Maybe my love for IPA’s is not what it used to be. I find this too bitter compared to some of the others in the same series. It lacks some balance, but it IS of course a very interesting project with the single hops.
