Mikkeller X-series. The first in a series of single hop IIPA’s. Brewed with US hop variety Simcoe, a Mikkeller favourite.

On tap @ EBF 2008. Hazy, dark golden to amber body with a small off-white head. Strong aroma of citrus fruit and hay. Flavor is malt, caramel, fruit and lots of hops. It’s strong in alcohol, strong in hops and still manage to be relatively balanced. Long and bitter finish.

Ethereal (2417) - Los Angeles, California, USA - DEC 7, 2008
Draught at EBF 2008, Copenhagen. Cloudy, slightly reddish amber. Hops and malt flavours both turned up to 10 compared to the single IPA - both on the nose and in the flavour. Less classy than the single IPA, this is more of a brawler with one hell of a punch.

Draught at EBF 2008, Copenhagen, Denmark. Unclear medium to dark amber orange color with virtually none head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, heavy hoppy, pine, grapefruit, orange. Flavor is heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium to full, texture is oily - syrupy, carbonation is soft. [130908]

Hazy brown with a small, off-white head. Intense hop aroma of grass, pine and citrus. Dry and hoppy flavour, very bitter.

(On tap) Hazy dark brown with an off-white head. Fat, peachy hop aroma - almost a little leathery. Quite full-bodied with sweet caramel and fruit. The alcohol and the hop bite combined almost burn my lips while the bitterness in the finish is surprisingly moderate. 130908

Draught at EBF. Murky reddish copper, small coarse head. Nice and simple passion fruity aroma. Flavor is syrupy caramel malts with strong fruity hops and lingering bitterness. Almost full bodied, smooth carbonation. Doesn’t show that same fresh fruitiness as the single simcoe, but nicely intensive.

On tap at EBF 08. Hazy russet, lasting beige head. Yes, lots of simcoes, it sings and shines over a sweetish malty body. Bit of heat on finish. Some yeast. It’s good, bit too much heat/hot alchool perhaps? Not as rounded as something like the Stone DIPA

Maria (10176) - Thisted, DENMARK - OCT 5, 2008
EBF2008. The color is dark red mahogany and the aroma has nice, fruity hoppy notes with hints of pine and a lot of smooth caramel. The flavour has notes of pine, resin, fruit, caramel, hints of licorice and a little ash. IMO the finish is a little unbalanced, but it’s still a very nice beer.

draught at EBF Copenhagen 2008 ... Hazy Dirty brown ... very bright hop nose and very hoppy it was ... huge hop kick up front ... quite bitter and more hops. Not my thing.

[on tap at EBF 2008] Smells like hops: pine and spice. Also toffee and notes of butterscotch oak, walnut, and grapefruit. Yellowed brown and cloudy with a wispy cover and ring. Very bitter--just a bit too much for the malty goodness which is overshadowed. Almost salty from so much hops. One dimensional, but really is hoppy--citrus/pine/currant/raisin. Medium body, spicy, bitterness eventually dissipates.
