(11.2oz bottle) Murky orange body with a towering off-white, stiff head; leaves a web of bubbly lace on the glass. The hoppy aroma smells like a delicious grapefruit; notes of orange, pine, some grass; citrus peel; sweet malt underlying the hops. There’s also some kind of floral, almost rose aroma happening too. Couldn’t wait to taste it. Medium bodied, not much carbonation; oily texture. Flavor is low-profile at first, some mild sweetness, definite caramel. But then the citrus hop flavor opens up. Very clean, clear hop character--perhaps from having only a single hop? The caramel malt returns in the aftertaste to mingle with the hops.

Firm golden, decent cap of head. Mandarin and pineapple nose, steep sweet maltiness. Initial taste is marmaladey juicy, playful sweet mango and clementine. Stringently bitter, fleshy sweetness. Carbonation is rock solid, nice and clean. Kicks of polished passion fruit, lingering marmalade sweetness again.

Aroma is pine, dank (Simcoe) hops and fresh yeast. The flavor is hops, tropical fruit, grapefruit pine needles, malts and a very bitter finish. Definitely looking forward to when Mikkeller gets the old Alesmith brewery, their fresh IPAs made in the U.S. are awesome.
Earlier Rating: 3/7/2011 Total Score: 4
Very dry pine aroma and flavor, a very good American style IPA that stands up to examples of the style in this country.
