4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 DanielBrown (3167) - Birmingham (via Leicester), West Midlands, - DEC 20, 2011Bottle from Stirchley Wines, Birmingham. Aroma is not massive, but is pleasantly hoppy, perhaps with some brick dust and tar/honey. Flavour is hop honey, with some flowers on the finish and piney/resin-y bitterness. This doesn’t feel particularly flavoursome or distinct, but I just find it very nice indeed.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 pintlyfe (4) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - MAY 22, 2013 does not count
Bottle from Mikkeller & Friends (again wrapped with love in classic blue tissue paper that has been saved and put aside to wrap other people’s bottled presents). A lovely clear, sunsent orange hue to the drink once in teh glass covered by a delicate but very present white head. While the spring Copenhagen sun definitely biased the sub-conscious and in turn the tastebuds as to what we wanted out of this beer but the smell, influenced or not, was an incredible blend of pineapple, pinecones and even a little honeydew melon right at the end. The beer went round the kitchen table and beer-losers, ladies, children and the uninitiated alike were equally excited by the smell alone. Impressive stuff! The taste continued the enjoyable experience starting out with sharp, pineneedle notes backed with grapefruit and citrus while the crystal malt offered an unintrusive canvas for the hop alone to be explored on. The hops linger in teh mouth and encourage a second sip. A very worthwhile while enjoy
able beer.
NOTE:
The Single hop IPA range was a great opportunity to see what each hop doeson its own after years of being (welcomely) bombarded with bevvies loaded with every hop under the sun. A fun and interesting exercise for eager, inquisitive IPA enthusiasts.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 kaser (1005) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 12, 2013
Clear orange pour from a bottle. Good looking sticky head. Spicy and apricot aroma. Slightly bitter and nice citrus taste. The mikkelers all have this certain same taste to it
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 ACD (336) - Dublin, IRELAND - MAY 8, 2013
33cl bottle at Probus Wines, Dublin. Pours hazy copper/amber with lasting off-white head and plenty of lacing. Aroma gives a load of pine resin, grapefruit, some deep-ish earthy spice, and caramel. Taste opens up with a hit of bitter pine and pithy grapefruit. Some orange and earthy herbaceous notes too. Sweetish caramel backbone is there, but not overly so - never becomes cloying. Powerfully resinous bitter finish and lingering pine in the aftertaste. This is a top-notch showcase of a powerful hop.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 gunnar (3586) - Sandnes, NORWAY - MAY 2, 2013
Bottle from Ølbutikken, Copenhagen. Pours hazy deep golden with a huge frothy off-white head. Aroma is fruity, kiwi, pine and berries. Taste is delicious pine and resin, dry and bitter end. Very crisp and fresh hops.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 humlelala (687) - DENMARK - APR 2, 2013
(on tap at MIkkeller & Friends) Pours a mostly clear amber with dense, medium white head. Beautiful lace and good retention. Aroma is hoppy with notes of sodapop and melon. Disappointingly light to medium body as I feel that the hop could easily stand up to a stronger malt backbone. Oily texture, medium carbonation and a sweet and not terribly bitter finish. Taste largely follows the nose with some added bittersweet and slightly weird hints of something that to me resembles rotting kitchen waste.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Staffan47 (198) - Uppsala, SWEDEN - MAR 26, 2013
Förvånansvärt bra ändå med tanke på humlesorten. Det är ju lite udda att göra en singelhop på en alfabomb. Besk och bitter
