3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sampled February 2014
A steady pour into my large Tripel Karmeliet tulip produces a two finger thick, pale purple stained, light tan colored head. The beer is a deep purple, concentrated amber hue that shows a brilliantly clear, rich purple hue when held up to the light. the aroma has a slight concord grape like note followed by a bit of buttery oak character, and perhaps even a touch of ripe cheesy character. Grassy, foxy, wild grape like notes, a light, but pervasive musty character, and some toasted, pale oak woodiness is also her in the aroma.
Lots of fruit, a nice tartness, a bit of aspirin like chalk / mettalic character, and lots of tannic oak / fruit skin character. The fruit character is quite rich here, lots of red grape like character, a bit tannic fruit skin character that has lods of fruit flavor along with it. Lots of buttery, and a bit of ripe cheese character adds a bit of balance and funk to the flavor; contributed by the oak, perhaps the fruit, and the fermentation character. Lots of tannins here contribute to a palate texture that is a bit richer than the light body would have otherwise suggested. The beer has a very soft sweetness that almost seems suggested due to the rich fruit character.
The fruit character adds a definite richness to this beer, and it is nicely balanced by the tartness, a light funkiness, and a firm oak character. This is a really nice beer that I am quite enjoying. I would not describe this as a Lambic at all, as it falls short in the funk and complexity that I like to see in the best of those, but it is quite enjoyable in and of itself.

A l’apéro dans le jardin, sous les lianes des plants de kiwi, c’était bien rafraîchissant. Bien acide avec un fruit expressif, je la préfère à sa sœur "SpontanGooseberry"

tap in Mikkeller pub. Oaky sour aroma, like smelling a red wine cork. Hazy dark red colour. Flavour of sour berries.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
(375ml bottle @ VilleValla Pub, Linköping, Apr 17 2014) Pours slightly cloudy dark reddish pink. Small pale pink white head with no lace. Aroma has the sharp oakiness and musty basement funk of a spontan series beer but with intense cassis and black raspberry fruitiness to trade it off. The palate has lots of tart cassis, blackberry and even raspberry or blueberry? There is a lactic and berry tartness, a little sour, oaky, some kind of dusty attic character. Finish is tannic like berry skins and red wine. Oaky. A bit of herbal lightly funky character in the aftertaste. Moderate body with high effervescent carb. I love the fruit character here which is bolder than most in the series, bordering on juicy. Good counterpoint to the dusty/red wine qualities. Feels like it would age beautifully for a couple of years.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20

4.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
An outstanding sour fruit beer enjoyed at Mikkeller Bar in Copenhagen. Sour and Cassis flavors blend perfectly together in this masterpiece. My favorite beer yet from Mikkeller.

Zdecydowanie winne, kwasne, wytrawne piwo przypominajace czerwone wino w aromacie i wytrawnego szampana w smaku, z lekkimi dzikimi nutami. Nie dla kazdego.
