108013, says the number on the cap. Purchased December 2013 at Craft Beer Cellar, Belmont, drunk 2/23/14
Deep, very dark black cherry skin body has a slight haze to it, but is otherwise nicely clear, leaving the sediment behind. Magenta-white head is medium-sized and recedes slowly to cover.
Tart cherry is prominent in the nose, and even a light raspberry-like note seems apparent. A touch of dry barrel tannin and a pinch of vanilla with little to no lambic character. Medium strength of aroma, no sign of the alcohol.
Yet another example of these recent cherry juice-like beers (3F Intens Red, GI Madame Rose). The cherry flavor is tart, sour even and very fleshy and authentic, fading slowly in to a strong black pepper phenol dryness, some more raspberry notes and almost a merlot-like punchiness. Reminds me strongly of boxed wine. In fact, the beer tastes more like a lambrusco than a beer, which isnt necessarily a bad thing, but lambic-wise? No way, not even close. Very little beer character and extremely light-bodied, very overattenuated. Alcohol well-concealed, at least, but why is it this strong?

For those of us that appriciate a sour fruit-beer this is worth a try. Not up to par with the best of the best (3 Fonteinen) though.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark tons of red hues. Great bottle. Nose is a burst of huge cherries. Like cherry pie just sweet and tart and very dessert like I get some musty basement funk. This is very similar to intense red by 3f. Just an explosion of raw cherry like a salad. Not tart at all

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle fairly fresh from my recent Oregon trip.
Pours deep ruby, almost pushing purple, with a sizable though short-lived rose head. Really pretty beer. What the heck, I’ll give it 5. The nose begins with a warm mild funk, leather and horseblanket, a fresh (and buttered) whole-wheat bread aroma, turning later to rich cherry pie. Easy to visualize the cherry harvest as one breathes in. Flavor is sour, of course, but not all that sour -- this is a pretty mild lambic, moderately funky, plenty of cherry of course with dry tannic cherry pits / brett leather in the medium-length finish and residual almond sweetness very late in the flavor profile. Mouthfeel is a bit thin for the 8.2%, I would have thought more like 5.5. I’m enjoying this a lot but it’s not an epiphany the way the really top-notch kriek can be. It is quite accessible, though, and would be a good way to gently introduce someone to an authentic but not overly taxing fruit lambic. Following it up with a Hanssens oude kriek really hammers that point home. This I’d give to my mom. Hanssens I’d give to Bruce Willis.
So all in all, quite a nice beer. But with a price in the mid teens I’d be inclined not to buy one again, at least not until I lose all hope that the shelf loons may someday return to Washington state. 8/5/8/3/15=3.9
Afternote: This one got better and better as I got further and further into the bottle, and after I’m finished nothing else but another bottle seems good enough. Sadly I don’t got one. Bump to 4.1 for getting so much better as it goes. Maybe worth the price after all.
