Brilliant vinous sour aroma with cherry and oakyness. Taste is the same, but no sweetness to the cherry and a bitter almost barnyard funky finish. Sour maybe 5 of 10, with it being mostly an acidic sour but the funky finish. Really a nice complex beer and not sweet like many fruit lambics. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft at EBP. Pours a thick dark cough syrup-y red (this is not to imply that the flavors go that way). Light pink foam on top for a minute. Big sweet cherry nose, mix of snack cherries and pie cherries, leaning a little more toward the sweeter snack variety. Creamy thick body with lively carb. Intense cherry flavors, lots of tartness as well, well-integrated enough that itís not immediately clear whether the tartness is more from fruit acidity or from the inoculation. Thatís pretty cool. Crisp refreshing finish. Very nicely done.

Refrigerated 12.7 botttle poured into a tulip. Opaque black with small purple head. Nice Cherry aroma, medium body, medium/low carbonation, and some small-bubble lacing. Taste is nice slighty tart rich cherries, a little oak, and hints of vinegar.

Gorgeous beer. Dark red body with foamy pink head. Strong sour vinous aroma. Taste is also sour a bit woody and vinous. Not a lot of cherry flavour just a touch. Quite fantastic.

Bottle. Mmmmmmmm, continuing the hunt for the entire Spontan Series. Found this one at The Bier Stein in Eugene. Light red pour, big cherry nose with hints of funk. Bits of sweet cherry juice up front leading into hints of vanillad oak with cherries mashed in between. Barnyardy funk hits in the back. Great brew.

Bottle, courtesy of a kind soul... shared in a location remote of my dining room.
Pours a very dark red, bordering on "red wine purple" with a smallish head and some decent lacing on the glass.

The aroma is fruity but a touch tannic. Itís got a lot of similarities to an acidic but still rich fruit forward red wine. Itís got some funkiness to it and some nice oak with a lot of rich sweet and tart cherry character.

The flavor is both tart and rich with lots of dark cherry character but at the same time it has a lot of sour cherry to it as well. Itís oaky and only mildly sour. Much like the aroma the flavor has many attributes akin to red wine in itís fruit and oak character but it even seems to bring in a touch of tannin and red grape. Everything is well balanced, complex, tart, and harmonious here.
I really enjoy this beer.
