Mikkeller gets a little sour. SpontanCherryFrederiksdal is an oak aged sour ale by the Danish gypsy brewery. Frederiksdal refers to the estate from which the beer gets its sour cherries.

Bottle. Mmmmmmmm, continuing the hunt for the entire Spontan Series. Found this one at The Bier Stein in Eugene. Light red pour, big cherry nose with hints of funk. Bits of sweet cherry juice up front leading into hints of vanillad oak with cherries mashed in between. Barnyardy funk hits in the back. Great brew.

Bottle, courtesy of a kind soul... shared in a location remote of my dining room.
Pours a very dark red, bordering on "red wine purple" with a smallish head and some decent lacing on the glass.

The aroma is fruity but a touch tannic. It’s got a lot of similarities to an acidic but still rich fruit forward red wine. It’s got some funkiness to it and some nice oak with a lot of rich sweet and tart cherry character.

The flavor is both tart and rich with lots of dark cherry character but at the same time it has a lot of sour cherry to it as well. It’s oaky and only mildly sour. Much like the aroma the flavor has many attributes akin to red wine in it’s fruit and oak character but it even seems to bring in a touch of tannin and red grape. Everything is well balanced, complex, tart, and harmonious here.
I really enjoy this beer.

Clear scarlet colour, pink head. Aroma of cherries, red fruits, dried plums, very(!) fruity, amarena cherries, cherry juice. Quite bitter flavour, fruity, red wine, pinot noir, wood. Reminding of 3F Intense Red. Quite astringent. Finish wood, lots of cherries, red fruits, wine grapes and cherry pips. Nice.

Deep red purple color. Purple head. Tart aroma, hint of vinegar, cherries and oak. Slight vanilla. Lightly tart, slightly sour, cherry not as intense as I would have expected. Some tanin bitterness. Hopefully this develops more. Still solid.
