4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle at Erzbierschof Zurich. Very strong cherry, incredibly sweet. Oh funk, where are thou? Not that I miss it in this beer, though, it doesn’t need it.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
(375ml bottle) An exceptionally deep garnet color with a thick deep purple/red tinged head of fine bubbles. Some nice lacing on this glass too. Nose of tart cherry skin, tart rich cherry fruit, oak, lightly sour bacteria, some lacto in here, touch of pedio perhaps, and some yogurt. Taste is amazing too, deep tart cherry flavor, fairly dry, some oak and tannin here, not overly acidic and no acetic in the least. The finish is possibly my favorite part, prickly natural carbonation, deep cherry flavor rests on the palate, quite dry and a light amount of oak. Delicious. Would love to have this every day.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bouteille 37.5cl, shared with the SHAPE crew, thanks Mark.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sampled August 2014
A vigorous pour into my New Blegium globe glass produces a one finger thick, dark pink tinged color. The beer is a dark concentrated red color that reminds me of a dark cherry; when held up to the light the beer shows a brilliantly clear, rich red hue. The aroma has a buttery cherry character to it up front, with tart, floral carnation and rose notes to it that dark cherry beers can get. There is a toasted oak character that subtly spices the aroma towards the end.
The beer is quite sour, puckeringly sour even, and a bit one dimensional in the first sip. This has a tannic, tart cherry flavor to it that leans a bit towards sour rose that gets floral towards the finish. The tannins coat the teeth and palate just a bit, and help to provide an extra structure to this beer; at first the tannins seem cherry skin derived, but in the long finish it leans towards a woody oak character. The texture of this beer is full for a Lambic leaning beer, if it weren’t for the solid sourness and tannins this would be quite quaffable though; as it is, this is a beer for sipping and enjoying.
Despite the ample color, this is lacking a juiciness to the cherry character that one might expect. It is quite dry, as compared to the character cherry Krieks from 3F and Cantillon, a touch of sweetness might help here a bit though. Still this is an enjoyable beer that I would be happy to have again.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle at home. Pours a deep red wine color with a dark pink head. Heavy berry aroma with lots of cherries, sweet candy, raspberries, earth, red wine vinegar and oak. The flavor is pretty sour with more cherries, lemon and red currants. Has a slick and silky mouth feel, medium body, and a medium to heavy berry bitterness. A great kriek with lots of cherries, and the aroma is really fantastic.
