Aroma is tart/sour fruit and a small hint of mustiness. The flavor is very tart fruit, an undercurrent of malts and a small hint of sweetness/mostly sour finish.

Bottle, thanks Evan. Pours deep bright cherry Ted with a minimal white head and lace. Nose is cherry pits, oaky vinegar, cherry pie filling. Flavor is mellow at first, segued into some sharper acetic acid, and lots of stems and pits. Sharp bitter finish which is a bit offputting. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This was definitely a gusher, I lost some to the table before I could get it in the glass. A careful pour produces a pink tinged, two-finger thick head that leaves some lacing on the sides of my glass. The beer is a dark, cherry color that shows a lightly hazy, bright cranberry hue when held up to the light. The beer smells of cherries, lactic acid, and towards the finish there is a toasted pale malt character that adds some cracker lie notes. The cherry character is not overly expressive, though it is just about the dominant note, but it competes pretty evenly with the pale malt character and the lactic acidity.

Sharply acidic, though not overly aggressive, and it is certainly lactic in character, the beer is also quite dry; both of these mute the bright cherry note found in the nose. There is a touch of astringency and tannin character in the finish, some of it seems like cherry skins, but I wonder if some of it is from some oak character. The soft, slightly slick, lactic acidity helps accentuates the soft cherry flavors here; these taste more like cherry skins than ripe cherry flesh. In the finish there is a slight phenolic note that leans a touch towards plastic. The body is quite light, but there is a certain slickness here from the lactic acid.

Not bad, though a bit flat if compared to a good Belgian Kriek; it doesn’t have nearly the funkiness, nor the complex acidity, or the expressive fruit that a traditional version has. But still this is quite enjoyable.

The head is medium, the body red-pink. It smells cherry, sweet. The taste is first very bitter, cherry, sweet, more sour, then a bit less bitter. Good! 10/11/10/10/-/10

Bottle. Dark ruby red with a tall, foamy pink head. Aroma is sour fruit, tart cherries, wet wood, funky yeast and unripe berries. Taste is strong sour cherry, sour fruit notes, funky yeast, wet wood and damp earthiness. Body is medium with a strong, effervescent carbonation and a bone dry finish. Finishes the same way it began - sour cherries, tart fruit, berry notes, funky yeast and wet wood.

11/10/11/11//11

12.7 oz bottle. Pours hazy red with a medium pink head with decent retention and lace. Aroma is funky, cherries, almonds, metal. Taste is mouth-puckering tart and acidic with some offnotes of metal, wet dog and skunk (green glass, Mikkeller, really?). These offnotes don’t totally ruin the beer and I’m able to look past them to still enjoy this. Finishes dry and hoppy bitter, something not usually found in Belgian lambics! Mouthfeel is too bubbly for my tastes, body could be fuller. Overall, a flawed but still enjoyable lambic.

Bottle at home (from Beermerhants.com) - 25/11/12. Pours a slightly hazed light claret with a big crimson/pink head that soon retires to the edges and leave a thin pond. Nose is tarte cherries, berry fruit, light vinegar, burnt notes. Tastes of sour cherries, wood, earthy tones, tarte berry fruits. Medium bodied with spritzy carbonation leading to a tarte fruity finish. Decent!

Bottle. Pours a deep garnet red with a large pink head. Bugs and a touch dirty on the nose while pouring. Picks up some funky cherry notes. Doesn’t have the ugly paper aromas that the last Mikkeller spontan one had. Medium bodied, tart cherry, but then then there’s the paper. Papery metallic notes overload the brett in the background. Tart and a bit funky, but overall not too great. Papery on the finish. Meh.
