Bottle from the Folsom Whole Foods. Tried to gush! Pours a beautiful cherry red with a creamy pinkish head. Essentially sour cherry aroma. Med plus body. Flavor is sour, earthy, cherry. It’s very nicely done. Finishes tart and sour.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a cloudy red/orange, with a thin head.
Fruity, spicy aroma, quite developed/aged, dried fruit, wood, dill, cherries, dried apricots.
Dry, medium bodied, low bitterness, balanced CO2.
Spicy, acidic taste, cherries, dried fruit, funk. The bottle was not old, but the beer feels a bit past its prime? (2012-10-08)

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle sample @ Borefts 2012. The pour’s deep red with a medium pink head. The nose is sweet dehydrated cherry, some sugar and mild funky yeast. The taste is meaty cherry pit, soft vinegar and chalk. Lip-puckering but smooth. Overall, this is actually a fairly nice kriek. Respec’

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from my birthday. Pours a deep red with bright pink and frothy head. Aroma is slight funk, gueuze, hay. Taste is initially slightly sour/tart but quickly moves on to a metallic taste that is very off putting. Moves on to some slight tart cherry notes and then finishes with my of a sucking on pennys taste. Overall, not that nice.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle 37,5cl from fonefan thanks ! A cloudy amber red beer with medium pink head. Nose is typically a gueuse one with moister and brettanomices. Aroma is very dry, tart, wet wood, acid and sour background, cherry is there but not outstanding, kind of bitter almond, a good kriek even if fruits are a bit shy there.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Poured a dark translucent ruby color with a large head. Aroma of musk and sour cherries. Didn’t taste much of the cherries, just a fair bit of funky fruit with a weirdly bitter aftertaste. Not exceedingly sour. Every sip tasted a bit different, sometimes in a good way. Not something I could drink a whole bottle of, but interesting.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
37.5cl bottle at CBC, London. It pours clear ruby with a big light pink head. Aroma is funky and sour, with light fruity cherry notes. Taste is sweet-acidic with good sourness. Once again, light sour cherries presence. Mouthfeel is kinda thin with lively carbonation. Overall, sour level and balance are quite good. This beer, though lacks in depth and complexity. Some more funkiness and a more pronounced cherry presence might help a lot.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
I was surprised to see Mikkeller trying his hand at some sours...exciting. Pours a bright and deep ruby red with a nice white head, great retention too. Medium body, slick and oily, nice carbonation. Strong sour cherry note upfront, nice tartness throughout. Some funkiness, notes of hay, wood, with a lingering grapefruit note. Finishes with a juicy dark cherry note and undertones of plum, lemon, and a lingering grapefruit bitterness. Once again, Mikkeller doesn’t disappoint. A great kriek, surprisingly strong with the alcohol only being slightly present. Looking forward to trying the Spontonale!
