Commercial Description:
Earlier batches brewed by Mikkeller at Ørbæk Bryggeri, Ørbæk, Denmark.
A love of American microbrews is the inspiration behind this IPA, brewed with generous amounts of aromatic, American hops, which provide the significant freshness and bitterness with lots of citrus notes. The taste sensations are nicely balanced by the sweetness from the caramel malt.
Ingredients : Water, malt (pilsner, munich and caramunich), flaked oats, hops (chinook, cascade and amarillo) and ale yeast.

Hazy golden tinted amber/copper coloured body with a dense tan head. Aroma of fresh grapefruity and piney hops with a bit of flowers thrown in the mix - all with a good malt smell. Medium-bodied; Strong astringent and bittering hops in the taste with a good floral and citrusey taste at the end. Aftertaste has a good malt backbone and a very potent bitterness throughout - perfect for hop heads alike. A bit of sweetness and alcohol to round out the beer, but the hops are the real show here. Overall, good to try and easily one of the best IPAs i’ve had - my favourite style and one that I think shows more trueness to the style than a lot of American breweries. Definitely worth trying if you can find this! I sampled this 500 mL bottle purchased from Ramsey Liquors in Ramsey, New Jersey on 19-January-2009 (for US$9) at home in Washington on 10-March-2009.

Bottle. Had a nice white head with a hazy almost amber look of the beer. Nose was of typical hops and malt but on the weaker side. It had a mild ipa taste with not as much hops coming through as i thought for mikkeller. Ok beer, even though its 7% it was a little light for my taste.

(Bottle at Pikkulintu, Helsinki, on 2009-03-01) Amber and hazy. Medium size, long lasting and white head. Pine, frutiness in citric notes in aroma. Full bodied and dry palate with medium carbonation. Malts, bitterness, pine, hint of grapefruit, fruitiness and sweetness in taste. Bitter and fruity aftertaste. Excellent IPA.

Good IPA. I love the bubbly copper color and foamy head. The beer has a nice lively mouthfeel. The nose is caramel and bright hops. The taste is balanced and refreshing--not too bitter or sweet.

Bottle via trade. Pours a cloudy glowing orange color with a 2 finger off white head. Nose was sweet malts, citrus and quite floral. Flavor held good balance between sweet malts and hop bitterness.

Bottle from Armanetti’s on Lincoln. Pours a very attractive reddish copper with thin sticky head. Nose is somewhat muted and floral, minimal resin or citrus, still very pleasant. On taste, initial sweetness is taken over by a crushing bitterness and very pleasant hop flavor. Sweet and fruity at first, giving way to the bready malt notes. This is a damn fine IPA.

Beer pours dark honey color with a nice off white head that mostly diminishes. Aroma is noticibaly lacking in fresh, juicy citrus hops. Aroma is hoppy with some dust in the background. This may be the effect of having to travel over the ocean, but the aroma on this is just too muted to be a top IPA. Flavor is A OK, with decent hop bitterness and just a bit of caramel malt. Pretty good, just not great, IMO.
