Commercial Description:
Earlier batches brewed by Mikkeller at Ørbæk Bryggeri, Ørbæk, Denmark.
A love of American microbrews is the inspiration behind this IPA, brewed with generous amounts of aromatic, American hops, which provide the significant freshness and bitterness with lots of citrus notes. The taste sensations are nicely balanced by the sweetness from the caramel malt.
Ingredients : Water, malt (pilsner, munich and caramunich), flaked oats, hops (chinook, cascade and amarillo) and ale yeast.

Bottle. Poured amber with white foamy head. Smelled fresh, citrusy, slightly earthy and grassy. Tasted like citrusy hops with a slight funk to it. Was expecting something a little more hoppy and a little less funky.

11/05/2008: Mikkeller Stateside IPA has a golden/pale amber color, a foamy white to off-white head, and prolific lacing from top to bottom. A fresh citrusy, grassy, resin hoppiness greets the nose. It similar, but different from the NxNW Kodiak IPA as this one has more toffee maltiness. The flavor is very well-balanced with a good level of fresh hoppy flavor and bitterness complimented by tofee maltiness. This beer has a medium-light body and is very smooth on the palate. Overall this is another well-crafted IPA with a good level of bitterness and good aroama and flavor. However, it is nothing overly unique.

Bottle from Belmont Station, Portland Oregon. Melon orange color with a head of tight white bubbles. Aroma is resiny bitter hops but also something funky that a little off. The flavor is much same only without the noticeable funk that was carried in the aroma.

Pours amber with a thin white head. Nice toasty malt and floral hop aroma with a hint of honey. Flavor is more of the toasted malt and a strong bitter hoppiness. Slightly more bitter than I would like which I believe is hiding some of the flavor. Was expecting better.

Pours a pretty copper, amber with a small off-white head. Amazing aroma of all things American hoppy as well as honey and some sweet citrus scents. Very nice honey sweetness at first if still a little unbalanced with the huge hop bitterness. The variety of hops creates an interesting combined flavor, it’s very piney with an herbal bitterness.

Bottle from BEERmerchants.com. Pours a hazed amber with a nice off white head, quite an attractive looking beer actually. Nose of sweet biscuity malts, caramel, flowers and piney, orange/grapefruit citrus hops, some slight honey notes also. As I walked away from the comp and took another sip, I caught a whiff of the red berries Ian mentioned. Taste is again, bitter, fruity citrus hops, pine, flowers and a sweet, malty caramel backbone. Great balance of bittersweetness and obviously well thought out...Lovely stuff!

Bottle from Zinister, shared at the October Houston tasting. Thanks!
Pours average amber with spotty head and lacing. Aroma is malty rose. Flavor is strong floral hops with a hollow finish. Average mouthfeel. Good beer, but it’s just ’’there.’’

Hazy copper, booming head, looks great with lacing all over glass. Great aromatics, fruit applesauce, flowers and bittering hops backbrone provide solid foundation to the brew. Harmoniously balanced and provides sublime drinkability. Great malt presence.
