Commercial Description:
Earlier batches brewed by Mikkeller at Ørbæk Bryggeri, Ørbæk, Denmark.
A love of American microbrews is the inspiration behind this IPA, brewed with generous amounts of aromatic, American hops, which provide the significant freshness and bitterness with lots of citrus notes. The taste sensations are nicely balanced by the sweetness from the caramel malt.
Ingredients : Water, malt (pilsner, munich and caramunich), flaked oats, hops (chinook, cascade and amarillo) and ale yeast.

500ml bottle (Angleterre, Helsinki, IPA weeks 2008)
Cascade fruity aroma. Sweet toffee mouthtaste, with some melon and orange. Some lightly soapy stickiness, but not offensive or astringent. Long sticky hop finish, similar to the aroma. Decent malty body in combination makes this very well balanced for a hop-bomb.

Quite reminiscent of an English ESB. Pretty tasty, but maybe a little sweet. Really not worth the price (14 Euro), that’s for sure.

Bottled at SOPP, Helsinki. Wonderful, fruity, woody aroma. Dark-dark honey/mead colour with a small white head. Taste of...heaven. Pine, fruit, smoke. Wow. Long finish with a raw masculinity. Reminds me of a bock...

Pours a heavy amber color with not much head. Citrusy aroma with some decent hops. A very thick IPA with a hint of alcohol with the hops and citrus in the taste. A little too thick for my liking, but still the taste makes up for it.

IPA as it should be, lots of heavy hopsflavor, but still enough alcohol so the hops doesn´t take all the taste. A little dark for a pale ale.

Bottle shared with Hogtown Harry, his bottle. Dark hazy orange, small white head with orange tints. Fruity aroma, lots of malt, spicy, candy - neat - almost Belgian like. Taste - holy crap - back of your throat strong spice, tons of caramel malt. Weird unique hops in here, I’m not sure if I like it, and I swear I can still taste that initial spicy kick 3 weeks later. Pepper, burnt sugar and some sort of Belgian/Uk/American hybrid - that’s all I can come up with. Not something I would drink a lot of but certainly unique.

Really like Tiggmtl’s rating of this and I couldnt agree more....a very dark IPA (surprisingly), I was expecting a pale, San Diego style IPA. But the conditioning/bottling is wonderful as usual, leading to a large beige head and plentiful lacing.
Assertively hoppy in the nose, but well-caramel malted leading to the typical lychee, red grapefruit and candied orange notes. Gets very bitter and challenging on the end, with lemon/lime rind and moderate tea-like astringency. A bit of breadiness as it warms and actually reminds me somewhat of the Nogne 100 I just had, though this one shows more balance and some fruitier, more playful hops. Strong aroma as well, with no flaws or alcohol.
Sugary caramel malts are immediately noticeable, yet there is an earthiness that also simultaneously dries the flavor out as citric and fruity hops provide plenty of juiciness and flavor. It gets very bitter, perhaps a bit excessively so, towards the end, with some earthiness and light toffee making a reprise on the finish. Fresh yeast and a very expressive carbonation, though not overdone. I liked the single hop IPAs better, but this is still a very well-made ale. Thanks for lettin me try another Mikkeller, one of the best brewers in the world, Olivier.

50 cl bottle from Bieropholie, cellar temp in a tulip glass. JN05/07

App.: Hazy orange-copper, large orange-tan head. Aroma: A pleasant blend of C-hops and sweet caramel malt; hard to smell through the head! Some brown sugar and resinous hops too. Palate: Medium-full body, med.-soft carbonation, slightly astringent. Flav.: Cotton candy and bubblegum esters, brown sugar and grapefruit; fruity and somewhat alcoholic; off-dry with solid bitterness; almost sticky finish with some roasted malts to linger.

Very faithful to the American style of IPA, which means I don’t love it.

Pungent, floral and citrus hops are supported by a strong malt base in the aroma. Opaque, dark copper coloured body is topped by a low but lasting, fine bubbled white head that leaves some patchwork lacing. Quite sweet in the mouth with well rounded malty flavour offset by assertive bitterness. Flavours are perhaps a bit simple and somewhat disjointed, never quite coming together. Medium body with decent carbonation and pleasant texture in the mouth. Bottle sampled with BeerPrince, CapFlu, and Oakes.
