General66 (164), Streator, Illinois, USA Mar 28, 2009 1 pt .9 fl oz bottle. Poured an absolutely stunning deep amber color with a huge three finger width white frothy head. I very rarely give a 5/5 for appearance but this IPA looked perfect! The aroma was very complex consisting of a lot of hops, pine, caramel malt, and citrus notes. The taste was a wonderful mix of hops, citrus and pine. It left a very pleasant bitter taste in my mouth that made me want more. It had a medium mouthfeel and left excellent lacing on the side of my glass. I have had a lot of IPA’s in my day but this one stood out for some reason. I believe I enjoyed it so much because of how easy it was to drink. Again, Mikkeller impresses... timfoolery (482), California, USA Mar 22, 2009 Bottle from DTM. This beer just reminded me of a really piney Sierra Nevada with a much better palate. Smelled great, but was overly bitter and harsh on the palate for a craft brew. Zinister (1198), Houston, Texas, USA Mar 14, 2009 Clear gold pour with small head and good lacing. Musty hops on the nose with a good biscuit aroma. Flavor is soft, mutted hops that disappears quickly. Medium to thin palate. A bit disappointing. Stew41 (1042), Caulfield, Australia Mar 13, 2009 Good looking ber this and holds magnificant off-white head for some time. No doubt this has good aromatics, sweet tropic fruits and mild citrus, but the flavours are dominated by hard green herbal hops. Big residual licorice and bitterness to finish. A textbook case of who big is not better. Shows some imbalance to my palate. gary07734 (391), Tyne & Wear, England Mar 11, 2009 0.5l bottle. Pours a murky red tinged copper colour with a big white foamy head. Smell is tons of bitter herbal hops. Taste is bucketloads of bitter hops, herbal and peppery with citrus and lemon background. Sharp, bitter finish but very pleasant. Excellent IPA. jgb9348 (2492), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA Mar 11, 2009 Hazy golden tinted amber/copper coloured body with a dense tan head. Aroma of fresh grapefruity and piney hops with a bit of flowers thrown in the mix - all with a good malt smell. Medium-bodied; Strong astringent and bittering hops in the taste with a good floral and citrusey taste at the end. Aftertaste has a good malt backbone and a very potent bitterness throughout - perfect for hop heads alike. A bit of sweetness and alcohol to round out the beer, but the hops are the real show here. Overall, good to try and easily one of the best IPAs i’ve had - my favourite style and one that I think shows more trueness to the style than a lot of American breweries. Definitely worth trying if you can find this! I sampled this 500 mL bottle purchased from Ramsey Liquors in Ramsey, New Jersey on 19-January-2009 (for US$9) at home in Washington on 10-March-2009. crondonik (32), California, USA Mar 9, 2009 Bottle. Had a nice white head with a hazy almost amber look of the beer. Nose was of typical hops and malt but on the weaker side. It had a mild ipa taste with not as much hops coming through as i thought for mikkeller. Ok beer, even though its 7% it was a little light for my taste. mjs (1446), Helsinki, Finland Mar 1, 2009 (Bottle at Pikkulintu, Helsinki, on 2009-03-01) Amber and hazy. Medium size, long lasting and white head. Pine, frutiness in citric notes in aroma. Full bodied and dry palate with medium carbonation. Malts, bitterness, pine, hint of grapefruit, fruitiness and sweetness in taste. Bitter and fruity aftertaste. Excellent IPA.
