bigrond (1043), factoryville, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 11, 2008 the aroma when this bottle was opened was vast. It grew as the beer was poured. THe thick off white head that followed made a lot of promises. All were kept. This beer was smoother than most in its class and was very well balanced. Excellent American IPA made by the Danish
ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA Jan 10, 2008 Clear amber, moderate head, decent lacing and retention. Aroma is typical PNW hops: grapefruit, citrus, pine, etc. Body is medium, moderate bitterness and sweetness. Reasonable hop flavors. Somewhat off balance, hard to describe, but blame the malts. Decent to good IPA, but a dime a dozen IMO. brewblackhole (1367), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA Jan 10, 2008 Aroma has that typical softness that Mikkeller is famous for, gentle hopping floral at first but after a while you get some citrus, taste is a smooth caramel soup, more malt then aroma would lead to to believe, bitterness hits you bigtime, flavor hops gentle and citrusy, very drinkable , but I like a little more oomph in my IPA’s crizay (1050), Brook Park (was Tampa,FL), Ohio, USA Jan 9, 2008 Copper pour, thin white head. Aroma is pretty damn malty lots of caramel and some citrus hops. Flavor is yet again another european IPA malt bomb. All caramel malt, resiny bitterness but low on the flavor and aroma. Thin mouthfeel with a sweet cloying finish and a big resiny aftertaste. Citrus hops are kinda there but not really. nick76 (2634), Tampa, Florida, USA Jan 9, 2008 The aroma is very hopyy with malt. The appearance is copper with a nice head. The flavor is like the aroma, nice but simple. The palate is thin but ok. Overall it’s good. BOLTZ7555 (1053), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Jan 7, 2008 After having Beer Geek...I thought this would be more impressive. Visually stunning, that’s about where it ends. Fluffy head sits atop a golden mandarin liquid. Aroma is inviting but not over the top. Taste is extremely sour; pine and resin. There isn’t any type of malty sweetness to counter the hop bitterness. Definitely not worth the $$$ you’ll shell out. MI2CA (1260), Noblesville, Indiana, USA Jan 7, 2008 500ml - Aroma is strong caramel with citrus and pine hops Pours transparent orange-brown with a medium head and great lacing. Flavor is hoppy first with a caramel finish. Palate is tart and creamy. Very tasty, but not unique enough to justify the price over here "Stateside". pintsize (1042), Austin, Texas, USA Jan 3, 2008 12-28-07 bottle shared with lb4lb thanks to tytoanderso.
A very thin soapy white head floats on a transparent clean reddish amber color. Smell is hoppy but surprisingly very sweet as well. Strong hop flavor and bitterness. A hint drying, but has a very nice crisp finish. A bit thinner than I had hoped but very drinkable and enjoyable overall! Everything is very nice about this beer - it just would be that much better if all of the elements could be kicked up a notch.
