3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled. Pours hazy, deep amber with an average, lacing off-white head. Aroma of caramel, wood, smoke and citrus notes. Sweet flavor that endes up dry and decent bitter. Medium bodied, oily text. and soft carb. A nice smoked.

Bottle. Poured a dark brown color with a small sized head. Subtle smoke all the way around ... there, but in the background. Chocolate, roast, caramel, and some wood.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
bottle aged in store about year or two,
Indeed star, complex and very pleasant flavor. To me this one is not so much smoked as it is barley wine or kind of strong/old/scotch ale.
Aroma starts with intense medium smoked notes plus loads of dried, dark fruits or berries. With time after thick foam lays down aroma becomes more deeper even - dark-dried fruity sweetness, woody, smoked dried meat, leather, some citrus hops,caramel-candy sweet. Wow, heavy weight to my nose. Pours dark with beige, creamy top, but I miss precise color cause was breathless from flavour deepness. Thick lasing from the top of the glass. Taste is sweet, malty-caramel, reminds scotch ale but with loads of bitter from hopping as well as from darker malts, even some heavy roast tones in finish. Nice. Medium to full bodied, thick, stew-slick texture, average to soft carbonation, strong to medium roast-herbal bitter finish with long lasting bitter sweet aftertaste, dry to light dry finish.
Sweet, heavily bitter hopped brew with intense dark malts touch and very complementary hints of smoked malt.
I’m impressed deeply by this brew and already have some nostalgia cause of sign "retired" so hope to grab for rest of few bottles in my favorite beer store. Sorry guys.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Deutlich rauchiger aber auch süßer Antrunk. Brotig, zu süß, die angenehme Malzigkeit wird dadurch gestört. Dabei ist der Alkohol niemals schmeckbar. Nicht ganz rund, unsüffig. 10/9/6/10/8/9

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
One of the strongest smoked beers I’ve ever had. Something new to discovere everyday, eh? This monster comes with a huge, dense, specatcular light beige head atop a dark burnt caramel robe with abundant powdery sediments. Smoke is the dominant flavor in the nose, but not far behind is warming alcohol and a stack full of malt - think chocolate, think Munich malt toasty nuttiness. This really is a smoked barley wine loaded with Munich malt in the end, deploying as it opens up a noticeable spicy, woodsy side. helping a lot to balance out the predictably fairly sweet flavour profile. The sugars come across in a molasses cookies frame, with a baked, darkened component that the smoke aptly sweeps on. Negligible bitterness all along, the finish being mostly about alcohol warmth and sweetness. Plenty of action in here, but as with many smoked beers, not broad enough to be a truly captivating sipper and far too strong to be drinkable. So sitting in the middle of two chairs and doing a much better job than most in that position.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle: Poured a dark amber color ale with a large brown foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of caramelized sugar with light smoked notes is quite warming. Taste is a mix dominated more by caramelized sugar with light sweet toffee notes than by smoked malt. Hops presence is not as powerful as I would have expected. Body is full with good carbonation. This must be an older bottle as it appears quite a bit of smoked and hops notes have disappeared.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Picked this up at Brewberry in Paris, Jan 2013. Finally opening it up on a nice night in Leuven. From 50cl bottle into Lagunitas jar. Smoke aroma hits the nose as you pour it, but actually it’s pretty tame by Schlenkerla standards. Big cafe latte head that sticks for minutes. Dark brown beer. Aroma is a nice mix of smoke, dark fruit, booze, and tobacco. You really get the taste of smoke with this one - wow would this be great with some rich saucy BBQ brisket. A bit viscous, but appropriately so; also a bit hot. Will be sipping this for a little while. Pretty nice beer.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Color: nice amber brown beer with small carbonization and small ivory foam. Smell: barley and hops domination, with a sugar nose. Taste: high sugar viscosity with hops caramel and sugar presence. Aftertaste: nice strong bitterness with small malt presence.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, 50 cl. Light hazy reddish brown with an off white head, good retention and lacings. Rather sweet nose with a smooth smokey note reminding me of spegepølse. Some peber too. Full nody, low carbonation, heavy alcohol. Too sweet and heavyly sugar coated texture to fit my palate.
