3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
2015-05-03. Black body with a nice brown head that fades. Aroma of dry dust roast, dark malt, and hints of cocoa. Whisper of peppers that you might not notice if you weren’t looking for it. Flavour starts similar, dry roast and dark malt, more cocoa character than in the aroma, bitter finish both from the roast and a bit of hop character I think. Mild spicy pepper is subtle at first but becomes cumulative leaving a tingle at the back of the throat for quite some time. Medium bodied palate, moderate to soft carbonation. The sharpness of the pepper makes it seem a touch thinner to me in a way I can’t quite put my finger on. Well done, but I find it a bit plain for an imperial stout without the chipotle character, and the chipotle is not entirely to my own tastes. Bottle from the LCBO, Toronto.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Chipotle and dark beer smell. Jet black with 3 finger brown head. Taste is chipotle, water, mocha more chocolate then coffee. Sticky lips. Good beer but watery. The chipotle is there and doesn’t make the beer any better or worse but chipotle works in beer. Cheer’s.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
A dry, easy drinking porter where the taste of chipotle perhaps is a bit too dominant in the long run.

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Pours black and thick as tar. Dense tan head.
Aroma brings loads of coffee and toast.
Oily, very soft and creamy. Great balance between sour and bitter, very pleasant.
Long, very long finish, with a fantastic spicy after-taste (that chipotle chili pepper). Great.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Black body with large smooth brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, coffee, smoke and hints of chilli. Taste is first chocolate with smoke and hints of caramel and some chilli. Very smooth and creamy mouth feel. Aftertaste is first sweet roasted malts balanced by some bitterness and later on it gets hot. This was the first beer with chilli I enjoyed a little bit.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from LambicSender, 2012 vintage. Pours deep opaque black with a large creamy brown head, dissipates slowly leaving nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is roasty, a touch of wood smoke, chocolate, just a faint whiff of chili. Flavor is light plus sweet, light bitter, very light smoke. Roasty and chocolate, some ashtray, coffee grounds, chili pepper present but more from a burn than a lot of flavor. As you drink the pepper builds up to a pleasant lingering heat in the throat. Full body, quite creamy in the mouth. This is a solid porter. Not sure why that little bit of pepper burn slides this to an SHV, but whatever. Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition! Go Mikkeller.
