Bottle. The pour is a very dark brown with a lingering head. The aroma is all porter, not much else. The taste is has the taste of peppers as soon as you take a drink. Lingers throughout, but not overly hot just a good spice. Quality beer and nailed what they were trying. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From a bottle. Pours dark chocolate brown with a light brown head. Tastes like spicy chocolate, dry spices, bready. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like sweet syrupy chocolate and light spice.

Bottle. Pours deep, dark brown with creamy tan head. Aroma is roasted and chocolate malts, chipotle and other spices, light coffee, prunes, and light booze. Flavor is dry, roast malts, chocolate, espresso, earthy notes, pepper spice, and some dark fruit esters; dry finish with a touch of ash. Medium body and carbonation.

12.7 oz bottle poured into tulip (brewed in Belgium). Pours a nice deep, almost black brown with a 1/2 inch-thick head. Aroma is of roasted malts, oak & whiskey, chipotle, and quite earthy. Taste is bittersweet, leaning more towards the bitter end. There is also some heat from the chipotle. Not too much but it certainly can be felt. This is actually fun! First time I’ve had a brew with some pepper in it so I might be a bit biased, but still. Texture is slick/thin, with light carbo. Finish is a lil’ bit bitter and the oak sticks for some time. Overall this was quite the surprise! I can see (well actually taste) why it’s so well rated...! Mikkeller, you never deceive.

UPDATED: FEB 10, 2014 Bottle: Thanks, Jeff! Continuous black, with very dark brown & ruby at the edges, topped with a cloud-like, tan head that grows larger than the beer itself & settles very slowly. Aroma is mainly roast & spice. Toasted, nearly burnt malts with char, zesty pepper, chipotle-like barbecue spices. Mild smoke & slight peaty undercurrent. Taste is smoky up front with some more barbecue pepper-y spices that come rushing in. Not so much "hot" or tingly, but quite flavorful. Roasted malts structure everything, light char & ash with more BBQ sauce, chipotle spice, & smoked peppers lingering in the aftertaste. A very interesting beer. The flavors are very nice, but almost so intense that they wear on your palate quickly. In smaller serving sizes, however, it is pretty nice.

I was really worried the chipotle would be overpowering, but luckily it wasn't. Smoky, a bit of vegetal, with a good stout base ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Rating #930 - January 20, 2014 - $8.00CAD for 12 oz. at #mondaynightbeers at the Underground Tap & Grill - Opaque dark brown/black pour with a bubbly head that fades quickly. Aroma is toasted oak, chocolate, espresso. Mild carbonation, medium-heavy alcohol warmth (could be the heat-heat). Palate is more chocolatey roasty malt, and a fiery chipotle heat. Rip-roaring spicy stout. Fantastic. Sessionable only for heat freaks I’m sure at 6.6%

Smokey oak peppery aroma. Very complex malt hop and pepper. Sip slowly to enjoy all the nuances. Loved this brew...just gotta try it.
