4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 19/20
On tap @ Toronado: Poured a jet dark black liquid into a snifter with a perfect layer of tiny head. The aroma is rich and succulent with bold scents of roasted malts while a soft touch of chipotle or some other kind of spicy chili pepper. The flavor is amazing with a bold taste of smoked chili pepper and or dried ancho or poblano peppers. Such a complex yet harmonic balance in this beer that it won me over thus earnings high scores across the board.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 10/20
UPDATED: NOV 22, 2013 I never bothered to read the Danish label at the supermarket, so only when I got home and slowly went through it again I realised it had chipotle. Oh, what the hell, let’s try it. Interesting aroma, leathery, charred, very much of an Imperial Stout but with a certain nose of olives in oil. Green olives. Pours oily black, with one of the darkest heads I have ever seen. Walnut brown head, very thick. Flavours should make a prefect stout if not for the peppery heat. That spoils the flavour and ruins the finsih. Just too hot for a beer. This Danish concotion doesn’t do much to improve the image of Texas rangers.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Thick black pour with creamy brown head (plenty of it, and it lingers). Aroma is rich and stouty - roasted barley, chocolate, leather. Taste is big and bold - great stout which comes across almost as an imperial. Sweetness cut by bitterness and through it all the heat from the chilis. Heat from the chilis replaces the heat from alcohol in stronger stouts. The heat is maybe a bit much in the finish (and I like heat).

Tap at the Craft Beer Co - 14/09/12.
Pitch black with a thin coffee head which soon thin and good lacing ensued.
Nose is sweet malt, chocolate, and a little woody smokiness.
Tastes of charred wood, sweet chocolate, burnt tones, chilli and a little medicinal at the end, almost whisky like.
Medium bodied, but fairly chewy, moderate carbonation, smoky finish.

330ml bottle. Pitch black colour with average, frothy to creamy, lasting, lacing, brown head. Roasty, dark malty aroma with notes of leather, herbs, spice, already peppery hints of chili in the nose. Taste is intense dark malty, dry and roasty, hints of dark chocolate, lasting hot, peppery aftertaste; also a Black IPA-like hop note in the finish.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
On tap at CBC, London. It pours a dark brown/almost black colour with a small light brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, raisins, figs, licorice and red wine. Taste is mostly sweet with a closing bitterness from the roasted malts. Notes of wood, coffee, smoke. FinIsh is bitter and hot. The chili peppers show themselves in the lingering hot and spicy aftertaste. Mouthfeel is quite thick with good carbonation. Overall, an outstanding chili stout, with just the perfect amount of spiciness.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draught at work. ( I never get tired of saying that). Poured into one of our sampler tulips. Pours medium deep brown, with a black core, thin dark tan head, spotty lacing - surprisingly poor lacing for a draught sample. Nose is big chipotle, very dry and spicy pepper notes with light smoke, sweet toffee/fudge, marshmallows, hickory, and cocoa powder. Flavours of spicy coffee, very woody, like hickory or maple smoke, plus lots of smoke, fudge, and plenty of earth. Not the equal of the Speyside Edition, but then what is?
