Bottle poured a deep black with an enormous mocha head that dissapated slowly leaving intense lacing. Aroma includes roasted malt, smoke, and pepper. Taste begins with coffee and roasted malt before bakers chocolate is introduced leading to a peppery finish with slight chipotle burn on the throat. Nice mouthfeel with smokiness and relatively intense chipotle flavor/burn lingering. Chipotle should have been better balanced (e.g., Stone 11/11/11 blending green chili).

Bottle. A little smoky, a bit more chocolately, and a lot more firey. I’m not sure it comes together, but Im not complaining.

12/11/9/9/6/10

Shared this bottle with people in line at the CBS release. Poured from a 750ml into my Deschutes snifter. A: Pours a dark brown with a nice khaki head and leaves a webbed lace down the glass. S: Smells of green peppers, a little chocolate and a little malt bill. The pepper is dominated which I expected. T: The taste blows the smell out of the water. A great smokiness is present first and foremost. The spice from the chipotle gives it a great kick and there is a green paper freshness that is great. There is a slight sweet chocolate on the backend that really rounds it out. M: Refreshing and spicy, medium bodied with a nice carbonation. O: The nose wasn’t too inviting but the taste more than made up for it. Very well balanced. The best pepper beer out there. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 10-02-2011

On tap @ Toronado: Poured a jet dark black liquid into a snifter with a perfect layer of tiny head. The aroma is rich and succulent with bold scents of roasted malts while a soft touch of chipotle or some other kind of spicy chili pepper. The flavor is amazing with a bold taste of smoked chili pepper and or dried ancho or poblano peppers. Such a complex yet harmonic balance in this beer that it won me over thus earnings high scores across the board.

UPDATED: NOV 22, 2013 I never bothered to read the Danish label at the supermarket, so only when I got home and slowly went through it again I realised it had chipotle. Oh, what the hell, let’s try it. Interesting aroma, leathery, charred, very much of an Imperial Stout but with a certain nose of olives in oil. Green olives. Pours oily black, with one of the darkest heads I have ever seen. Walnut brown head, very thick. Flavours should make a prefect stout if not for the peppery heat. That spoils the flavour and ruins the finsih. Just too hot for a beer. This Danish concotion doesn’t do much to improve the image of Texas rangers.

Pours pitch black with thick mocha head that lasts. Smells of coffee and chocolate. Tastes of dark chocolate, coffee, mocha, and chili pepper. Bitter flavors mixed with pepper flavors. Finishes spicy with a bitter and spicy linger.
